Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Wireless connection Hi,I am having problems getting my laptop to work through the wireless router -- modem connection. When the LAN network is disconnected there is not connection to the internet, although there is a wireless signal registering on the toolbar of my laptop. The computer would connect to the internet with both LAN & wireless - presumably through the LAN network, now it won't do this, I have to disconnect the wireless connection. Please help!Thanks- K The router is recognised as connected with an excellent signal when connected through my laptop but when I try to connect to a web page my AOL page appears. If I type my password in it doesn't connect. If I try and close the AOL I just get a can't connect message. I have used this lap top away from home before on wireless connections with no problems so the fault can't be with the network card. Any ideas would be appreciated. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! the odd thing is that my internet used to work and works on all my other computers just not this laptop anymore for some reason, i tried contacting my internet provider and the dell people and geek squad and i hate geek squad soo useless they just want money its sickening its pissing me off nobody wants to help me...im having my friend check it out later on and if he figures it out i will be sure to share it with you guys cuz i know how frustrating it is

When you get signal strength excellent than at that time goto command prompt by typing cmd in run window and than type the following command at prompt c:\ipconfig / all and this command will show you the status of your all wireless and NIC card ip address. So pls check that wheather u are getting the ip address in the wireless connection or not. and if you are not getting it than
1> first of all connect the wireless router physically by lan cable and than open it in browser by typing ip address of it and than enable the dhcp in it with proper ip address range of you local lan. and than save and restart the router. This might resolve your problem and feel free if any other query.

Hi , plz guide me to connect my laptop to belkinRouter.

Hello,

To begin with connect the Modem to the Cable/DSL/ADSL slot on the router and connect the computer to the LAN slot. Now run the disk given with the router. Enter your ISP settings and your internet would be working wired and wireless. Now connect to your wireless network using your laptop/wireless computer. Find the belkin network and connect to it.

Hope this helped.

I am trying to connect my new router to my laptop, but the instructions say i should connect my pc to the internet by connecting my ethernet cable to the router.my problem is i have only one connection and...

Modem <-- Ethernet cable --> WAN port on router

LAN port #1 on router <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop computer

LAN port #2 on router <-- Ethernet cable --> network-port on laptop computer

If the router has built-in "wireless" capability, then use the desktop computer's connection to the router to "configure" the wireless adapter, i.e., pick an SSID, and establish a password, and then your laptop computer can use the SSID/password to connect "wirelessly" to the router.

I have a dir-615 router and have been able to establish a wireless network but cannot get the network to connect to the internet.what can I do?

I assume you have a cable or a DSL modem connectec by a LAN cable to the wireless router.
Have you checked you with your ISP to see if the connection yo your modem is OK?
Have you check the LAN cable from the modem to the wireless router is good and it in plugged into the WAN/Internet port on the wireless router?
Have you installed the latest wireless card driver in the computer/laptop?

For instructions on setting up the wireless router and the wireless card in the computer/laptop, please follow my instructions - click on this link :-

My wireless modem doesn't appear on 'connect to a network'

You may have to configure the router and change some wireless settings to get it to work, goto the router configuration page, (run ipconfig /all, at a command prompt, to get the "ip address" for the rotuer config page, I believe it is the"Default Gateway" that you would enter in the address bar of IE to get to the page, (the pass will be user:Admin, Pass:Admin, orPass, or Password, or 12345 on some older ones) then click on the wireless menu's from the left.
I hope this helps, if so please give a fixya rating if it solves/helps solve your problem.
P.S. The router itself may be broken, and LAN may still work while WAN will be not working, usually buy a new router.
Thanks,
Gomez

Not sure if I understand properly but your router should have a WAN port or an "Internet" port

your modem should be connected to it and your PC should be on any of the LAN port

Wireless connection

Chk if you are able to ping the router ( Start - Run - cmd - ping ip address of the router  ) . IF you can do this when you are wireless, you will know if your card is communicating with the router.
Alternatively, carry your laptop to any hot spot to chk if its the wireless card in your laptop or your router thats causing the trouble. Atleast you can isolate teh issue with this.
