Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

2 Answers

I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop whose USB port is being used to charge the battery in an iPod Shuffle music player. The laptop shuts down after about thirty minutes of inactivity, preventing the iPod from receiving a full charge lasting four hours. Is there a way to override this automatic shutdown so the laptop can be used to fully charge the iPod's battery?

As i recall shuffles do not have a power adapter supplied.
You need to adjust the power options in the control panel
Click START
SETTINGS
CONTROL PANEL
Dobule click power options
select the power scheme drop down and select ALWAYS ON.

click apply and ok.

You can use a powered USB hub to charge your iPod, MP3 player etc. without connecting to a laptop's computer USB port.
Just connect the mains adapter to the USB hub and then plug your iPod into the hub for as long as you need.
You can also use this hub for your computer/laptop when you need extra USB ports..

When I unplug the printer from my Dell Latitude D610 laptop, the battery icon appears on the bottom right hand corner instead of the "ON AC power" icon and the computers shut down due to a low battery....

Your AC power supply is not providing power - The printer is supplying your laptop with power via the usb port. When you unplug the printer, the laptop runs on battery until it goes dead. You will need another AC power supply,

Good Luck

Override laptop automatic shutdown after inactivity

Easily done! Right click your desktop and choose Properties. Select the Screen Saver tab and at the bottom choose Power. In the Power Schemes drop down box choose Always On and the PC will never turn off. You might also want to disable or set the time higher for your screen saver.

Replace broken usb port on dell latitude laptop

You will have to take the machine apart somewhat, or at least to the point of being able to disconnect and remove the usb port. Here's a link to the D600 service manual download. It will guide you through the breakdown process.
