Question about Porter Cable Cable No. FC350A Clipped Head Framer

1 Answer

Porter cable nailer excessive air escaping

I have a framing nailer that has constant air coming out of the back of the nailer where the "blow back" would come out.  It does not stop so I lose psi...This is the first day I have used this tool, but it is over a year old.  It sat at a store, but never sold.  I was the first to use it.  I am working in 10 degree weather if that matters.  The tool did work for an hour or so at a very slow pace, three of four nails then 5 minutes then repeat. The tool stopped working after I used it to put 20 nails in straight with no break.

Your head cap actuator is sticking. since machine sat in a store Porter cable head caps have a tendency to stick due to the head self-corroding inside. They have had this problem for years and never addressed it. After you look at parts schematic and understand where certain parts go,Take head off and remove white plastic actuator in head. Remove orings and wipe them with a rag. wipe the grooves with a rag to remove any build up. If head it corroded spray head with liquid wrench, not WD 40. and let sit overnight reinstall orings and use petroleum jelly or a thin grease to lubricate orings and reinstall actuator in head. Reassemble. Use pnuematic oil on a daily basis.

I have air rushing out the exhaust port on a 350 porter cable framing nailer

Needs to be rebuilt. You can buy a seal kit from PC that will fix your issue. Then, you might want to check your pressure settings on your compressor (if you dont have a regulator, you will want to buy one and install it), framing guns (and most pneumatic tools) are meant to be operated in the neighborhood of 90-120 psi.. anything more will cause seals to blow.

Plunger extended and blowing air in framing nailer

Air leaking out of head and driver extended indicates that the cylinder seal is bad and or the head valve is sticking or stuck in the head. Easy to check by removing the head and looking at the large plastic seal on top of the cylinder. If seal looks good, pull out the head valve and lube with white grease. Parts are here :

Good luck

Can My FC 350 A used 28 degree nails

The manual for your gun specifies 34-degree nails from 2 to 3 1/2 inches long. 28-degree, wire collated nails are a Stanley-Bostitch thing and they only work in their nail guns, they will not work in your nail gun. You need 34-degree, paper-tape collated nails. I know Senco framing nails will work in your gun and I think Duo-fast makes 34-drgree nails but check that before buying them.

Hey, I have a Porter and Cable Round Head Framing Nailer, Model FR350A. I am now losing air pressure through the exhaust of the rear of the nailer. I think I have blown a O-ring as i later found out that...

Most likely orings will not blow out when over pressure. More likely the cylinder seal has cracked (vinyl seal sitting on top of the cylinder). Also check the upper bumper for cracks and replace as needed. Lube orings with plenty of silicone paste lube and retest. Good luck

I have air leaking out the nose of my nailer. When I removed the nose the upper chamber holds air pressure. After I put the nose back on it will hold air pressure, but after I shoot a nail it will start...

sounds like the packing is shot. you need to oil it 2 times a day if its a constant use tool, drain your compressor everyday if its below temps do it twice a day. before removing the packing try putting lots of oil 10 drops into the nailer it might just be **** caught in it but **** can ruin the packing.

Just purchaced porter cable framing nailer and it leaks air. I can here the air coming out of the top where the air exhast is. Please help. my email adress is Thank you

Sometimes when the air pressure drops, it won't pull the plunger back up and will leak like that, Try pulling the access off the front for a stuck nail, and pull or push the drive pin back up, plug it back into the hose and see what happens. Make sure the pressure is 120 lbs.
