hi, i contacted hp systems the pins the printer are refering to is the following below. the said if this don't solve the error contact them with possible parts replacement. good luck! ISSUE: The Line Interface Unit (LIU) must be removed for troubleshooting or replacement on an Officejet model 2890A, LX or 300 series. SOLUTION: There are catches that must be released before the LIU can be removed. Follow the instructions below: Removing the LIU

  1. Unplug the unit from the power outlet.
  2. Open the top of unit to access the ink cartridge area.
  3. Stuff a tissue into the black plastic opening just to the left of the print carriage as shown in Figure 1. This will keep any ink that is in this area from spilling into the unit and damaging it. Figure 1: Inserting a card to release the LIU c00224954.jpg
  4. Turn the unit until it is resting on one side and the bottom is accessible.
  5. The LIU is normally removed with the aid of the LIU removal tool (part # C4661-40007) that is included with a replacement LIU but can be removed without it. Here are the two methods:
    • With the LIU removal tool: Line the tool up so that the pins push against the catches on the LIU and press down to release the catches. While holding the tool pressed in, apply pressure to slide the LIU out of the machine as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Removing the LIU with the removal tool c00224955.jpg
    • Without the tool: Use a pen or small screw driver to release the two catches (one on either side) while at the same time pushing out on the LIU as shown in Figure 3.

The information I recieved.

Tuen the printer off. Open printer cartrege well.
Push row of cartreges manyally to the center of the printer bar. Remove cartrege in question.

Remove the outter lable on the cartrege. (It will peel off) be careful not to peel the plastic window off the cartredge or it will be useless.
Replace the cartrege back into the well to reinstall.

I did this SEVERAL times (everything up to removing the label but reinstalling) before FINALLY, I recieved a message indicating the cartrege was not a genuine Epson cartrege...do I wish to continue?
It appears in the window on the printer.

How do I reset the chip on my ink cartridge for a epson wf 2540?

You're better off buying the auto reset replacement cartridges. Word of warning: Epson printers "SPY" on you and tell you that by putting in the compatibles, you will void their warranty. Second Warning: DO NOT download any Epson firmware upgrades because they will wipe the compatible chips and render them unusable. Always keep your old, used epson cartridges in case you need to reset the printer with the original chips.

You can try running hot water over the tip of the pen for about a minute, then test the pen by rubbing it on a rubber surface. Hopefully that should loosen up the ballpoint and allow ink to flow freely again

Hi Stuart,

I have the same bp as you. Why donot you ask Corum if it is to be repaired. Maybe they can tell you who the manufacturer of this pen was. I think Delta or Montegrappa was the manufacturer. Mail to cdubois@corum.ch. She was in 2008 working for Corum when I asked Corum more info about this ballpoint.
