I have a toshiba satellite with windows 8 installed on it. Currently i am having a problem where when i try to shut down the laptop, it restarts and says its due to an error. What is the best course of action to take? Furthermore i have an identical laptop with the exact same specs bought on the same day, however when i try to start the laptop, its says "boot failure: a proper digital signal was not found. One of the files on the selected boot device was rejected by the secure boot feature." Solutions to these problems would be extremely helpful.

My laptop battery sometimes gets so hot when I'm charging it that my pc shuts down

It might be to do with Windows 8, but what would be overheating is your processor or RAM. If it is the battery, Windows 8 might be too much drain, or it's simply coincidence and your battery is had it.

hi Mike.
this is all i could find.
Try the following...

1. Power off the laptop.
2. Power on the laptop.
3. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off.
4. Repeat this process a few times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
5. Now you want to let the laptop boot to the "Automatic Repair" screen.
6. Click "Advanced Options" and then select "Troubleshoot".
7. Here you want to select "Refresh your PC", if you do not wish to erase data, or "Reset your PC" to erase all data and restore your system.
8. From here just follow the screen instructions until the recovery is completed.

NOTE: You will need to get into the "Advanced Options" in order to get the "Refresh Option". This choice will keep your data, but any programs installed will be lost.

Do not do a "Reset" as that will wipe all data you have on the laptop.

I hope that you have a goood back-up of file. Getting blue screen error is a fatal OS problem. You need to re-install windows. You need to get the CD that came with your computer or the operating system disc you used to install the windows. Toshiba Satellite 5105-s501 Restarts Windows then shuts down intermittently

Yes it could be, the notorius GeForce2Go is a replaceable card on that model. I have seen, lines, blurry text, and Boot loop issue caused by it. Be warned, the replacement card is expensive.

Cheaper & better finding a complete laptop with busted screen.
and removing the card only. Then you will also have other spare parts.
