UltraMax Plus won't mount red lights flashing

HDD connected by Firewire 800 to iMac. Has worked OK for a year now it fails to mount and the 2 red HDD lights flash alternately. Disc Utility doesn't see this drive. Tried connecting with USB 2, no change. Hope somebody can help. Thanks all.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Can't mount my external Iomega harddisk anymore

Try running disk utility. If it can see the hard disk but it isn't mounting it, try clicking "repair" or if that is greyed out, "verify" then "repair". Be warned that this could take a very long time, so leave it over night. It may even look like it has crashed. This may either fix the problem, or tell you that the drive can't be repaired (in the data sense) and it will hopefully mount it read-only so you can retrieve the data. You will need another drive with enough space to copy everything off. If copying data fails, try copying folder by folder or even file by file to get off all files that are ok, as otherwise it will just give up when it finds corrupt data.

If disk utility cannot see the hard disk at all, try the other interfaces (usb/firewire/sata). If it can't see it in any of them, try it on another computer. If none of them can read it then the unit is dead. You may be able to retrieve your data by taking the unit apart, removing the hard disk, and placing it in another enclosure. This will probably void your guarantee though, so it's a choice you may have to make :(

SOURCE: iMac failing to recognize Iomega UltraMax Hard Drive

I have the same problem too, this iomega is terrible, I have it only less than two months and it is not working already. Evan it has one year warranty I will not suggest anyone to buy it in the future.

You can try connecting the HDD to a computer and formatting that way. FAT32 if all else fails will need replaced. Sounds like HDD has problem.

Where can one buy a replacement pcb control board for a iomega 'ultramax plus' unit? My existing one has a damaged IC component at 'U4'....and possibly more elsewhere on the board.

No one sells what you're looking for. I'm assuming the drives were in a raid configuration which means you can't put them in an enclosure to get the data off. Your best bet is to purchase another unit and replace the drives. This thing is hella expensive. If you don't need the data you can get a different one bigger and cheaper. http://www.sears.com/iomega-33991-esata-firewire-800-firewire-400-usb-2.0-500gb/p-00389575000P

I can only comment generically:

I would try to uninstall the drive on the OS. Then re-start the computer. After the re-start, connect the drive and see if the drive re-installs itself.

If the error persists, then the drive is indicating failure. To absolutely verify if it has failed, take the drive to a store where there are MAC computers and try the drive on one of their computers to see if it works.

A continuous flashing LED on most devices where the LED does not normally continuously flash is an indication of a failure of the device. Some devices will flash an error code when designed to do so, and if possible.

Iomega Ultramax red light turns on at start.

It's probably the power supply. Iomega has been having lots of power cord failures. I had same problems and thought it was the drives until I did a internet search and saw lots of people having the same trouble. I called Iomega and they sent me a new cord. Problem fixed. You cannot use the drive without external power, specially with the 4-pin firewire: there are some USB models that allow it (usually 2,5" drives), but you need 2 USB outlet oth the PC (one for the data and power, the second for power supply). About the compatibility you shouldn't have problems.

If you manually turn the headset off, make sure that it is by itself, no other phones in the area, no WiFi hotspots. Once this is done make sure that there is not a bluetooth already installed on the phone itself, if there is, delete it. Make sure that the headset has a full charge. Try the pairing again. If this still won't work, you can try Plantronics Tech service line 800-544-4660.

2 red lights flashing is'nt too bad of a deal. just reposition your xbox 360 to a place where more airflow can get to it. plus, dont have anything that gives off heat near the xbox 360, thats vary important to give it room for cool air. it worked for me
