Sounds like a PSU is out. Use a multimeter check voltages at plug.

SOURCE: No display and wont boot

A Blinking Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Power supply is easier and cheaper to replace.

SOURCE: I need to replace the cooling fan and heatsink on my Gateway ML6720. I'm having trouble finding the part. If I can find it, can you tell me how to replace it?

The best thing you can do is replace the fan itself with a like kind of shape and size. I usually do this by going to a computer store with the old fan and matching it up with the ones they have in stock, or measure the size in milimeters and buy one on line. The fan is held on by 4 screws and it is much easier than trying to remove the heat-sink and take the chance of damaging the motherboard. You can just screw the new fan to the old heat-sink and you are done, plug it in and insure the fan is blowing in the right direction and you are done. Good Luck, RAC

SOURCE: gateway 500xl pc will not turn on power button is lit up yellow

A LOT of Gateway computers will go into this catatonic state because of a dead battery. The battery is on the motherboard -- it looks like a metal disk about 1" in diamter. Check it or replace it. This applies to laptops too (not the actual laptop battery, the CMOS battery -- a laptop will have one on the motherboard too)

Hope this helps

Gateway dx 4320 wont turn on

It could be a few things:

a faulty power switch - you say that you've changed the PSU, but did that include the switch?

it could also be a Faulty Motherboard or CPU. If either of them are fried, you won't see anything come on either.

I'd suggest checking the switch first because that's the cheapest and easiest to replace

The PC shuts down randomly. when it's restarted it displays message that a thermal event (overheating) has occurred. what could be cause? power supply?

Hello antmanv1
It's nearly certainly a psu issue . Replace it by a more powerfull one .
A defective fan ( CPU or general ) could also cause malfunction . Check this first .
Download Speccy to have control on temperatures and all functionning devices : http://download.cnet.com/Speccy/3000-2094_4-75181811.html

Gateway 825gm wont tun on. just replaced on/off switch. greem light on power supply and mother board blinking green

Make sure the small cable from the switch to the mother board hasn't come loose. It comes loose fairly easily when reinstalling the cooling fan plenum. Its happened to me twice. Its even possible to plug it in the wrong place. Doesn't hurt to double check.

I have a Gateway 510xl and would like to upgrade the power supply

Changing out power supplies is not that difficult task. Upgrading to a 550 Watt power supply would be a good idea because it will give you more power than you need at the moment. You can google the power supply with the word problems with it and see what comes up. The main thing to be sure of when selecting a new power supply is to make sure that you get one with the appropriate connectors for your hard drive, motherboard and processor. For example if you have a SATA Hard drive then you will need a PSU that has SATA power connectors. Most newer power supplies (PSU) have these. The box should list what connectors it has.

Cooling fan doesn't seem to be working

If you have a volt meter you can see if the computer is putting out power to the fan, also you should
be able to test the fan on an external power supply, if you dont know the fans voltage start off at 5vdc
, most fans are 5 to 12 volts. Hope this helps
