How do I change a fan belt on a 2001 5.4 expedition?

You will need to locate the belt tension-er. It looks like an idler pulley but it is spring loaded. You'll find a 1/2 inch square hole in the mounting bracket which you put a "breaker Bar" into then pull off the tension to release the belt. Slide it off the pulley as you hold the bar. You'll have to release the the out belt.
This doesn't have a tension-er as you'll find a slotted bracket with a bolt to loosen as well as the pivot bolt.

Mtd manual

MTD uses several different configurations. Electric PTO's are tensioned all the time by an idler pulley on a spring loaded bracket. Manual PTO's with an engagement lever have a movable bracket attached to the lever via a cable that will tension the belt when the lever is engaged. Another configuration is the deck engages when the deck is lowered with the deck height lever and disengaged when the deck is raised. In this case the belt is tensioned by a large spring from the rear deck support bracket to a mount on the transaxle and tension is released by a rod that pull the deck forward when it is raised.

I can't get my power steering belt on. what can i loosen up to slide it on?

The idler belt can be loosed out on the main pulley circuit which allows the belt to be pushed into the slot and then the idler can be pulled up to be tightened to the desired tension.

How do you replace the alternator?

there are 2 locking bolts underneath and 2 bolts on the front belt adjuster bracket, undo the 2 bottom bolts and the bolt in the alt/bracket,loosen the block bolt/adjuster bracket, that will release the belt tension, then pull out of the engine bay, replacement is the 2 bottom bolts finger tight then the belt over the pulley then finger tight for the bracket, tension the belt be levering the alt away from the block and tighten up the alt/bracket first then the other 3.check belt tightness (1/2"movement/slack on longest run)then recheck all bolts tight.....you will need to recode your radio after.and dont forget to note what wires came off what terminals.......draw a picture if needed...

How do you install a new belt? its hard to fit around !!

Youmust loosen the motor bracket bolts and this will allow the motor to swing. Put belt on the motor pulley and feed the belt onto the large drum pulley and at the same time turn the drum pulley so that the belt pulls onto the pulley groove. Put some tension on the motor to tension the belt - not too much tension though. Holding the motor & belt tension, tighten the motor bracket bolts - job done. Should take no more than twenty minutes to complete.
