GFE471LVS We now think it is the temperature sensor, part number W10181986. Does that seem reasonable?

I don't think so. I don't believe the broiler works on the probe. But you can test it. Ohm the oven sensor to make sure it ohm's between 1060-1100 ohms. More then 10% tolerance then you need to replace it.

Odd but true, same problem started yesterday. We replaced the temperature sensor in 2012, and it fixed the problem...until now. The broiler unit turns on automatically and stays on when the oven is in use. No error codes are given. I cannot seem to find information regarding this problem. Please help. Thanks!

SOURCE: broiler element broke and was burning as if it was being welded

Probably none. The sparking going on after you turned it off was probably the ground side of the element. Replace the element then re apply power and see if you have any trouble then.

SOURCE: Oven & broiler not heating on our Maytag

Hi,
May be the heating coil is bust?
The control panel is in parallel usually so as long as the controls are getting power they will turn on. But if the coil is gone you wont get heat. If you want to try fixing it, you may need a multimeter, or a continuity tester.

Possibly oven sensor is bad. Most test at around 1080 ohms at room temperature with a multi meter set to ohms setting

Whirlpool Gold Series stove. When turning on the oven to pre-heat, the broiler came on and we got a fault saying FAULT - PRESS ENTER TO RETRY.

Appears the burner is faulty, check connection at burner receptical first then check with meter for opens. Indesit oven keeps heating

Tappan gas range, TGF334BCWB. I can NOT stop the broiler burner from lighting. I have unplugged the 110 power and I light top burner with a striker. However when stove is plugged in to the power the broiler burner lights and continues to burn. The oven knob is turned OFF. The only way to stop the broiler is to unplug the power.

Whirlpool Range model RF386PXGQ2 broiler won't shut off

Hi.

If the element does not turn off, possible faults are:

Shorted temperature probe.
Test temperature probe reading impedance. If impedance is zero or lower than 0.500 Ohms, the the probe is shorted. A good probe reads about 1KOhms.

Contact at element. A contact in element wiring harness may cause the element to stay on. Do continuity test between ground and element and on wiring harness.

Defective control module.
If problem is none of the above, then it is the oven electronic control(ERC). The ERC can be tested reading voltages.

Testing must be done by a trained technician.

Broiler won't turn off. Error code F-3

The broiler won't turn off even when you press the "Off/cancel" button? It sounds like the broiler control relay is stuck shut. The F3 code means the oven temperature sensor has failed, this probably happened because the oven got too hot when the broiler was stuck on. There is fail-safe thermal fuse that will blow if the oven gets too hot, so the oven won't melt down but you should leave the unit off so you don't blow the fuse.

To fix the relay, you will have to replace the oven control module. I think this is about $200 and not too hard to replace if you are somewhat handy. The temperature sensor is also serviceable, you can find parts at Appliance Parts Pros on the web. Hopefully you haven't thrown the range out yet, let me know if you need further assistance.

Oven will not shut off broiler element stays on

The control knob more than likely operates a relay that has gotten stuck in the energized position. If this isn't the case then the Temp sensor or thermostat probably shorted internally. Unplug the unit before attempting any work.
