Question about Craftsman Garden
Mowing Mom here--my Craftsman GT with Kohler engine starts fine but just doesn't have the power to move very fast and can't pull my Cyclone Rake anymore. Starts --a little more choke needed now than before to start. But just creeps along. Hubs just replaced the mower belt--happened after that. Also notice a screeching sound every now and again (kind of like when a belt is going on a car). Don't know if that is related or not. Appreciate any direction on what to check--hubs is handy, but mower is my baby.
I love my Cyclone Rake. Double check your main drive belt to make sure it is in good condition AND, if you replaced it recently, that it is properly routed. I replaced the belt on my Genuine Troy and I did it wrong and only knew it AFTER I had destroyed the belt. Hope you can ID your trouble quickly.

There is a pin in the back by the hitch - make sure it is pushed in. If it is pushed in then check to see if there are any oil leaks under it.

sounds as though you are on the right track
but be sure to check the wiring directly from the electric clutch on the front of the motor back to the switch
a wire could be pinched in the frame and shorting out intermittingly
look around and find those wires and move them around and look for chaffing and tightness
and what you could also do is to unhook the clutch at the connection to it at the front of the motor and engage switch and ride around and see if fuse blows and if not you may have an electric clutch issue
