Same thing happens today with the bike Radio Flyer Trike 4 in 1. I just opened the red adjustable hub, and found one spring detached, and both springs that control the 2-pawl system of ratchet system very loose. I tensioned both springs but it worked for one day only. Called customer service, provided all the necessary information and they promised a new front wheel. In 3 business days a received, a brand new front wheel with pedals and fork. The pedals are fixed on wheel, and is the best solution from radio Flyer for a Kid who is grown with the bike from 18 months to 36 month, and now at age 3 rides the lovely Radio Flyer like a dare devil. Thank you Radio Flyer.
Having a strong mechanical background, I opened system, both sides of the wheel. To dissemble and repair, I had to remove one pedal on the side of the big white hub. What I found inside was a Ratchet wheel, with rounded teeth, and 2 Pawls totally worn out.
I fixed drilling 4 holes all the way through metallic plate, ratchet wheel, and the hub of the wheel. Inside the hub cavity, I used 4 washers and nuts to secure tight all 4, 3/32 stainless steel screws.
My grandson is very happy and more confident, because now he can move the bike forward, and backwards, and the most important, now he can use the pedals of the front wheel to stop the bike. Which it was a safety flaw by original design of this bike, but solved now by Radio Flyer. The new wheel Red Hub has 2 Positions. 1 PULL TO COAST. 2 PUSH TO PEDAL.

Must be referring to tires instead of tikes. Anyway, it is worth to always stick to quality tires. There are quiet a number in the market such as street bike tires, dual sport tires among others...

SOURCE: I have 2 little tikes ride on toys with pedals.

What I do is watch for other toys that are similiar that someone has thrown out. Then reuse the parts.

You could try Craigslist for your area. They have a wanted section where you can post what you are looking for. Put a picture of your item and say you want one that's broken.

You can also check Garage Sales and Thrift Stores for an item that is reasonably priced that you can use to swap parts.

The other alternative is find something that will fit, but wasn't an exact match.

Either way your local Ace Hardware or Home Depot or the like may have some washers/screws etc to help you retrofit the item.

Try replacing the screw. If you cant, get a long thin bolt and nut to replace it.

Smartrike front wheel won't turn with pedals once on the ground

Old question but I just needed the answer and figured it out. On one side of the wheel there is a disc with two arrows, line this arrows up with the arrows on the wheel and push the disc into the wheel until it clicks into place. Pull it out to convert back to a stroller.

We cannot push the hub in on little tikes bike no.618277 do you have any ideas please

Hi Mathew,
Did you find a solution ? I have the same problem now : the hub is lose and the pedals keep moving between stage 2 and 3. Engaged/disengaged. Very distressing for a toddler learning how to use the pedals on his own !

Thanks !

Son's can pedal 12" bike

Yes, something isn't turning freely. It's either the front wheel, the back wheel, or the pedals and chain. Lift the bike off the ground and turn the front wheel by hand. If it doesn't turn very freely, it could be the hand-brake is dragging or the hub bearing is too tight. Try the back wheel in both directions. It should move freely in the forward direction. When rolling it backwards it is normal for the pedals to move too if this bike has a coaster brake (that is the kind of brake that is applied by pushing the pedals backwards.) It the back wheel moves forward freely, but backwards is a problem, then try the pedals by hand with the rear wheel off the ground. If this doesn't turn freely, the pedal crank bearing (a.k.a. bottom bracket) is too tight. Once you have identified the problem take it back to where you got it. It should be easy to fix, or they should replace it.

HELLO.. MY DAUGHTERS POLARIS TRAIL PRINCESS STALLS WHILE GOING UP HILLS. THE BATTERY SEEMS TO CUT OUT, AS THOUGH NOT ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE IT UP A SMALL INCLINE.. I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS, HOWEVER THE BIKE...

sounds like the foot pedal might be bad, when she is driving forward and lets off of the pedal do the rear wheels lock up or does it keep coasting?

The pedal hits the tire whilst turning. We just got the bikes and put them together but when you ride and try to turn, the pedal hits the front tire and causes the bike to stop abruptly.

The pedal should not be able to reach the front tire. Sometimes one gets their toes to overlap the front wheel on a racing bike but that's because they have intentionally short wheel base and a steep for angle. Which way is the fork on your bike pointing? It should be angled or curved forward.

Look at the bike icon on this posting for an example.

I need to remove the rear tires on a little tikes hummer h2,

I would take a pair of pliers and pull off the push nuts.
You have to replace the push nuts with new ones, but when you purchase the little tikes hummer wheels from http://www.shopjandl.com/kids---baby-ride-on-toys-little-tikes.html
they provide the push nuts with the wheels
