You have to set cam up with the program
After you start Windows Live Messenger,
expand the view by clicking on the square
on top left next to the red X.
Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the
right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click
on “Show the Menu Bar”.
Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on Action.
Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting
and follow the instructions.
if you still have a problem please let me know and don't forget to rate

Hi, not sure whether you are experiencing the same problem as me but it sounds like it. If you are running McAfee virus software you may like to try this fix.
Firstly click Start, All Programs, Acer Crystall Eye webcam. If the camera is working you will see an image appear on the screen and the problem is likely to be firewall related, if this is the case follow instructions below which I obtained from Acer:
Hello, Thank you for contacting Acer.
Regarding your enquiry,
We have been made aware that a recent update to a plug in to McAfee Internet Security, this has stopped the inbuilt webcam working in MSN messenger.
McAfee is aware of the issue and is working on a fix for it it. As a work around you’ll need to configure the Site Advisor section of McAfee to stop it monitoring MSN Live Messenger.
Please follow the following steps:
1. Click on the start menu and type run into the start search box and click on the run icon (for Vista) or click on run (for XP).
2. Type C:\Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor and click on ok.
3. Find the file called sasets.ini and then right-click on it and choose Open With, then select Notepad.
6. Close notepad.
7. Restart the machine.
it wouldn't allow me to directly save the notepad, I had to save a copy to my desktop. Close down McAfee then overwrite the sasets.ini file with my new save.
