Question about Dell Optiplex 755 Desktop Intel Celeron Processor 440 80GB/10
Power button will not switch pc on but reset button on power unit will start it for a few seconds then cuts out.
You can also have a faulty power supply. I've seen many dells meet their demise with junk power supplies. If you are able, and you have the time, try a different one inside of it. it will need to be about a 300 watt 24 pin ATX style power supply with a 4 or 8 pin CPU power plug. (depends fully on what the board calls for.)

Sounds like the PSU. Test voltage at plug.

SOURCE: the OPTIPLEX 755 will not start
Open the case and look at the little black round things that look like soda cans. Those are called Capacitors. they are kinda like small batteries. They should have a shiny silver top. If they have anything oozing out or if they look like theyve popped like a popcorn kernel, then you have a faulty board. If your pc is under warranty, call dell asap. its an easy repair and its done the next day.

Pop the case and make sure the video card, RAM, and CPU is all seated correctly in their slots, and then make sure all fuses you can see inside/outside the case are in good shape (if applicable)

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model laptop are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the driver for your Windows operating system.

I have the same issue, in my case, in some Dell's I get a loud FAN noise as well, so far except for the FAN issue replacing the PSU had no effect so I think it is the MB/Proccessor. Recently dusting out the Processor worked on one of the mis-hap Dells which has thuis issue. I personally think Dell tech's should look into this and post some working base solutions!
