You can try connecting an external keyboard. When the external is connected the BIOS may ignore in built-in keyboard, bypassing your keyboard error.

You can also try removing the stuck key by prying it up GENTLY.

The answer to your question is unless you can get a working keyboard connected to your computer there is no way to change the boot order. Without a working keyboard you can't get into the system setup (BIOS), nor can you press the correct key.

try to recover first your data, remove hard disk and make it slave to other station. copy all your files. then you may now reformat using a fresh install of windows xp.

How to reformat a laptop

since u didnt specify te model or brand 'm giving u all the option
1) if u have the recovery cd of the laptop then put the 1st disk and boot from it and follw the prompts

2) now if u dont have the Recovery disk then put theoperating system cd and boot from it and follow the prompts.

if u are following the 2nd step then u shud have all the drivers for the laptop for the os downloaded before doing the formating.

note: to all these first u shud go to bios and change the boot order to CD drive as priority 1 and local hard disk as priority 2

Change boot sequence for HP L2000

Hi,
You need to enter BIOS at startup. The correct key to press will be displayed at the bottom of the black screen when you bootup. Usually, F10, F8 or F11 or Del. Mash them all on booting up.
Now navigate the Bios settings with the arrow buttons and select cdrom as 1st boot device with the enter button. Then Save and Exit.

Compaq laptop/no boot up

Hi,

Initially it may be suspected that your laptop is detecting a hardware problem, probably the hard disk. Since it partially boots and there is display, the following can be ruled out: video card, memory and display systems. That would leave us the hard disk and the motherboard left. If the motherboard is in question, chances are it is the BIOS.

Pls try and verify that the hard disk is connected snugly. The hard drive is usually inside one of the slots covered by a panel/lid held by a single screw.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, further diagnosis may be required.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.
