it reads dvd but not cd or cd-rw

and i can not burn dvd+r/cd-rw

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2009

When I insert a DVD in my laptop, the DVD is not recognized.
Some attemts are made and then it appears always as it would be empy (with the DVD / CD-RW label and not reading the label of the DVD).

With the CDs works fine. But the hardware of the machine says is a DVD-ROM / CD-RW.

I tried to stop all the programs possible, also firewall and antivirus, to stop a lot of services, but nothing.

If you can, try a USB drive, I bought more then one, also try using a Dell drive off a replicator, the C series have drive ports, but there is the powered USB on the Dell's side

Hi,

You can try the steps below and that should fix the issue.

Edit the registry:-
1. Click Start, and click Run.
2. Type regedit in the Open box, and click OK.
3. In Registry Editor, click the plus (+) sign next to each folder name to expand the following registry path:
4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
5. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
6. In the right pane, right-click Upper Filters, and click Delete.
7. Click yes when prompted to delete the registry value.
8. In the right pane, right-click Lower Filters, and click Delete.
9. Click yes again.
10.Close the window and restart the computer

Please do not forget to rate the solution.

Regards,
Musheer.

Hi! You may open your registry by clicking start and typing regedit then press enter.

Expand each entry and try to delete the upper filter and lower filter

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Hope it helped! ^_^

Hi, Dell D800 won't start up.

Can you F7 or F8 or whatever your system uses to get into the bios setup screen? If you can accesss that, you can install an operating system. If not, you have an issue. Put an operating system CD in to see if it is recognized for starters.

Dell Latitude D800-Win XP- My Dvd/rw wont write

Because you lost two devices, the DVD and the wireless mini card, I believe your problem is a drivers issue.
You should make sure you do not have any Malware that is removing these drivers.
If you have access to the Internet download and install Malwarebytes. It has a quick scan that will ID any infections.
Then get the newest drivers for those two devices from Dell's support site.
Before you install the drivers, remove those devices in Control Panel.

I need a resore disk for latitude d400. Windows XP will not load. continues to go through start up procedure.

You can try to press Ctrl key + F11 on boot-up if you have a recovery partition on the computer it will take you to the system recovery options and from their you can select dell factory image restore that will restore your computer to factory settings but you will loose all your data. If their is no recovery partition then you can call dell to Oder a recovery cd that will cost you $10 to $12.

you need the drivers for the nic. you can get them from support.dell.com by typing in the service tag. obviously, you'll need a computer with a working network connection. copy them over on cd or usb drive to the laptop.
