Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Acer Aspire 5920 laptop. I tried doing a webchat with my sister via msn, we were able to get visual connection both ways, but she could hear me speaking but I couldn't hear her. I have check all my volume settings. The volume bars that are shown whilst doing a live webchat for both me & my sisters were both indicating voice recognition but I still couldn't hear her. Can anybody help.

I sssume her microphone volumes are set ok as she is able to hear me clearly. Plus, her hubby is a bit of a whiz re PC's, & he had me trying various ways to resolve the problem & talked me through checking my volume sttings via phone.

As far as I am aware they haven't had a problem when speaking with other family members.

How would her volume affect me hearing her?

The last message I rcvd asked me :-

Is your sisters volume turned down low or on mute?

My reply:- Why would her volume affect me hearing her?

    many thanx

You said, "The last message I rcvd asked me :-

My reply:- Why would her volume affect me hearing her?"

Because if her microphone input volume is low or muted, her microphone won't be picking up sounds, so won't transmit any sounds to you. If other family members can hear her, that is not the problem.

I would try using Yahoo Messenger, if you get sound with that then you know an MSN setting somewhere is the problem. If you still can't hear you know it is an issue with your computer.

Acer Aspire 5920 problem

Your best play is to restore the machine to the factory settings. To do this, power up the machine and immediately press ALT+F10. From there you will enter Acer eRecovery Management which will give you the option of returning the machine to the factory settings.

WARNING:
This will erase everything you had stored on the machine!! ie data files, pictures etc...
