Most receivers require the built in speakers in the set to be OFF.

SOURCE: No digital to reciever??

This tv will only output the sound from a digital tv channel through the optical output when using the tv's digital tuner. So if you are connecting a DVD etc it will not output through the optical output on the tv. ONLY digital chanels through the tv's tuner will give you sound. Refer to the tv's owners manual for more info.

SOURCE: Sony SXRD (KDS-R50XBR1) fan question

there are 2 more fans, 1 is in the middle of the base housing, 2 screws, should be clean. the other is on the left behind the circuit board in a black housing. This fan when i removed it was CAKED with dust and there is no way it could have had any effect on air circulation. the fan is inclosed and you have to take out the whole circuit board to get to it.

SOURCE: Sxrd 50 won't turn on - Cooling system or dlp lamp?

4 blinks is a fan error, check and see if the fans are clogged with dirt. Unplug the set then take the back off and get some canned air and blow the fans out.

The red lamp light on my Sony Wega SXRD flashes 5 times 2-3 times in a row then shuts off. No picture or sound

This usually indicates a problem with the main board on the TV. This board is similar to the motherboard in a computer. I would have a repair professional look at it to confirm my suspicion. However, I will warn you that if it is the main board, it is generally more economical to simply purchase a new TV.

Sony SXRD (KDS-R50XBR1) fan question

Try to access the self-diagnosis screen. With the TV off, push in sucession, the "mute, then the number "5" button, and then the volume down button, and finally the pwer button. When the picture comes on, there will be a list of different circuits and to the right are numbers which represent how many times that particular circuit had a malfunction. Sometimes the red blinking LED code is itself in error, so this may help to clarify the root cause of your problem. Now, if the TV will not stay on long enough to perform the previous operation, you should consider replacing the large exhaust fan that is in front of the lamp assy. This has been the problem fan in these sets.
