    PROBLEM SOLVED BY TAPPING THE TOP OF CARB. WHILE CRANKING ENGINE. RUNS LIKE A NEW MOWER NOW.

If the float don't float, the needle valve stays open and gas runs into crankcase.

If float floats (has no gas inside) then the needlel is probably worn and needs replacement.

I recommend taking it to your local Briggs and Stratton dealer or authorised repair centre.

Or you can buy a manual from Briggs and Stratton for your make and model which will give you photographs from which to work.

That's what I did to service my B&S lawnmower.

Will not start. but if I pour gas in carburetor it will. stop after the gas is burn of carburetor


Could be that the needle is stuck in carb, or else the fuel pump diaphragm is bad. Check the pump, thats what I would check first.

Should go to the valve spring access cover. Is the PCV line and keeps engine from building up pressure internally.

To clean the carb you will have to remove it from the engine and give it a through cleaning with small diameter wires run through the ports and blowing out the gunk with low pressure air or WD40's little red tube. From your description, you need to do this as the ports are clogged and not letting proper amounts of fuel through to the engine.

Ok i have a problem with my Briggs & Stratton 16HP v-twin vanguard engine.When i start the engine and rev it up when i idles back down it sits there and rev's up and down then it straightens out and...


It appears that you have a slight mis-adjustment in the idle speed and idle mixture. To adjust setup, start with at least a half tank of fuel, and have engine at operating temperature (That is warm but not overly Hot). The Briggs & Stratton Website manuals section should show the locations of the adjusting screws if you are not sure of them.
To adjust idle speed set Throttle control to minimum and adjust screw on throttle butterfly to maintain a good idle speed. To adjust idle mixture, screw in idle mixture screw (Lean) until motor falters and then screw out (Rich) until it falters again. Correct setting is the halfway point of these two positions. You may have to re-adjust idle speed again and also the mixture to get best running.
If you are not comfortable doing this, take it to a B & S dealer.

The condensor is not the problem for they go bad upon not hold a charge. When the engine heats up and the engines dies out the problem may lay in the magnito's frame mounting from swelling from the heat, a loose mounting bolt(s). Or a Magnito that is ready to go out completely

Have you also changed the spark plug too. The ignition circuit is pretty simple, from the battery, the Coil is energized, the "points" or equivalent, through the "Distributor" or equivalent, and onto the Spark Plug. So it is a simple matter to work along the path, proving the "Integrity" at each, point by testing. IF it still doesn't fire after ensuring all Leads are OK, the Spark Plugs are proven OK, the Cables, the Points, & Distributor, . IT is either that or the Ignition Timing is OFF. Please check all those points.

Yes its pretty easy you can do it.Are you sure the carb is bad most of them just need a good cleaning .I would disassemble be careful there are some little parts in there and if you are careful and pay attention as you disassemble it you can just clean it .Go to auto parts store get a can of spray carb cleaner .remove bowl be careful the is a float in there a little square or round bellows .Slide the pin out and then the fuel loat pin underneate the float now take out any adjustment screws you can find and spray cleaner in every hole you can find several times and reassemble if idle or fuel mixture screws were removed a standard setting of 1 1/2 turns out from seated position is the norm and some adjustment may be needed once running either in or out till runs smooth.
