Old kenmore sewing machine model 148-13110 will not sew a straight stitch

Machine will sew all stitches well but the straight stitch is really small but looks normal in reverse. I have the manual and have troubleshooted and followed all details in the manual but this still remains the problem.

It sounds like the machine needs to be checked to see if some
of the parts need to be adjusted. or even see if a part is damaged

SOURCE: Sewing machine straight stitch is not straight

Hey. It's full out possible that you have it on the right setting...but concider this - the switcher inside the sewing machine could be broken (ie. It's moving to different stitches - but not the one you have the outside set for)

It happened to me (pc o crap singer model)

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

SOURCE: How do I do a stretch stitch?

The bes way to hem a t-shirt on a household machine is to use a double needle, straight stitch. You will see two straight stitches on top and zig zag on the back. Just make sure the zig zag catched the top of the hem.

Can u do normal straight stiching with ovetlocker model 686 elna?

No. A serger is not made to do straight stitching. However, you can accomplish the look of straight stitching as long as it is on the edge of fabric. The serger trims fabric from the edge and encloses the raw edge with thread.

If you want straight stitching, you need a sewing machine. Go to a sewing machine repair shop and ask if they have an inexpensive old mechanical sewing machine...like an old Singer, White, Necchi, Kenmore--the old metal kind.

I have an old Kenmore sewing machine that belonged to my mother...not sure when she bought it. The model # is 17891. The machine will not stitch anything but straight stitch....any suggestions?

If you have a machine that does several patterns and stitches but only stitches straight stitch no matter what you select, you need to change the needle first, if that does not work then the mahine needs to be retimed.

I have a Kenmore sewing machine Model 158.17030. It's an older model and I don't have the user manual. I can't figure out how to set it on the hemming stitch. No matter what I do, it just sews a straight...

Hi. First, I'd recommend you get a replacement manual. They are really useful. Check out http://sewingpartsonline.com/sewing-machine-instruction-manuals.aspx.

I assume you have different stitches on the machine and a diagram of some sort showing what each stitch looks like. Find one that looks like:

---^---^---^--- (maybe on its side). That's the blindstitch. Some machines require you use a blindstitch foot with the stitch, but some don't. Without the user's manual, it's hard to say what your machine requires.

Good luck and let me know what happens.
