If there Air Conditioner is wall thermostat controlled, then take the front cover off the thermostat and check the fuse. If the fuse is ok, then take the inside cover of the AC down and pull down the control box that is mounted in the intake section of the AC. It is held on with two wing nuts. Remove the cover and observe the relays and the incoming AC wiring. Make sure that none of this is burnt. If all looks ok, turn power on and turn the thermostat to High Cool and check if you can hear the relay click inside the control unit. If not, then check to see if the thermostat has 12V going to it. Start there and see how that goes.

If it is controlled by the ceiling mount t-stat and selector switch. Remove the inner shroud and check the incoming AC wires for OK. If they look ok then check the selector switch and the thermostat.

The Refer has protection from this. Depending on which refer you have (Dometic or Norcold), the process is a tad different. If it is a dometic, go to the outside of the coach and remove the access panel on the rear of the refer. Remove the black cover from the control board (lower left side) and check to make sure that the 120V fuse is good (You will need an ohmmeter to check). If it is fine the check to see if you have power going into the 12V block at the very bottom, rear of the refer. If there is 12V there, then check the plug that the Refer is plugged into for 120V. If none, check the GFCI circuit in either the bathroom of the kitchen. If tripped you will have no power to fridge. Start there and then we will move forward.

Basic same checks for a norcold, board is harder to remove as you have remove wires. Mark and remember where they go.

Hope this helps,

What size & type generator? On start up the AC unit can draw as much as 17-18 amps in some cases, and if your generator is not designed for a quick draw like that it will die.

What size circuit breaker is on the generator that is tripping? You'll need a 20amp for AC alone, then consider other things that are drawing current when RV plugged in like , converter, fridge etc that may be drawing current at same time. Make sure fridge is on propane, as well as water heater if you have electric element option on water heater. AC may only draw 12-15 amps when running if good and clean and wired properly, but will draw 17-18 amps when compressor kicks in. Perhaps generator not designed for that surge?

You have too small a cord on it if it's heating up and then popping your breaker. The a/c has am amp rating on it's data tag, read it and then read the amp capacity of your breaker and the cord your using. If the a/c draws more than 80% of the rated amps for the cord and breaker then you need to find another way to power it up with a bigger cord and a bigger outlet. DO NOT just install a bigger breaker, it is sized for the wiring in your home and a bigger amp draw on that wiring could burn your house down.

Ac wiring problem

as a general rule ,only if your ac was a window unit. aka a 120 volt unit . all other acs use 240 volt. a 120 leg and a 120 2nd leg to equal 240, so there is really no common. what kills acs with a generator is the lack of watts and starting torque. an ac (3 ton) and up needs a generator of 10000 watts minimum to handle starting trque. they also need a hard start kit to boost starting voltage.for god sake someone reply and tell me what a good job i am doing!!!!!!!as in grade the response to your question.
