Question about HP (REFURB) HP XW8000 XPP X 2.6GHZ 2P 36GB SCSI 2GB DVD CDRW NVS280 RMKT HP (C39951999BGSP) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Xw8000 beeps When I boot up the screen is dark and I receive a series of one long beep and two short ones. It sounds like memory. I had best buy replace the MB due to a bad board. It has not worked since. It booted up once after I got it home. Best buy will crucify me if I allow them to work on it. The MB is fine...could it be the ram is bad?

This code is either for improperly seated or bad RAM or improperly seated or bad video card. Try reseating these parts before spending $$ for replacements as it might just be they aren't fully seated in the slots. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

AMD sempron power supply

Hi,

I would venture that "shows winfast on monitor" indicates the type of Video Card that your PC is using. Thereafter it should go to POST showing the motherboard, BIOS, memory count and others.

Since as you posted, after Winfast nothing follows, I can only suspect that you have a motherboard problem or at least a BIOS corruption.

Please post back the brand and model of your computer or at least what motherboard.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

One beep, quick pause, then constant series of beeps. Memory, cpu, power supply replaced. Shows the Asus boot P4B533 graphic on screen while error beeps. I get the proper related error beeps if memory, agp...

It does sound like the motherboard failing as you have tried everything possible. Could be the bios chip corrupted.
As to a replacement, Ebay is your best bet, as there do not be any suppliers offering this older board now

Powers on for 5-6seconds then beeps one time and shuts down

Here are the beep codes for common BIOS programs:

1 BeepA single beep from an AMI based BIOS means there has been a memory refresh timer error. The solution is often to replace the RAM in the computer.

A long beep from AWARD is probably memory error.

1 short beep from AWARD bios & PhoenixBIOS and most others is a positive ok signal.

Without more information, it sounds like it is a memory problem. Remove the memory and see if it will boot to the BIOS/setup screen. If so and you have multiple memory sticks, put one in and try to boot. If that fails try the other.

4 short beeps

4 short beeps indicates memory problems. Either the RAM modules are incompatible or they are faulty.
Are you trying to increase the total RAM if so use the same modules from the original manufacturer but larger capacity but the same speed.

Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 short beep codes on cold boot. Tried reseating RAM, didn't help. system runs fine after beeping stops

Using the manual for the Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 MB. Go to page 71 & you'll see bios beep codes for your board: AWARD BIOS Beep Codes 1 short: System boots successfully 2 short: CMOS setting error 1 long 1 short: DRAM or M/B error 1 long 2 short: Monitor or display card error 1 long 3 short: Keyboard error 1 long 9 short: BIOS ROM error Continuous long beeps: DRAM error Continuous short beeps: Power error As you can see there isn't a code for three short beeps. When you boot your system try to pause your boot up screen. See if the bios is reporting the correct total of memory in your system. Bios codes from the link below. http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#05 3 beeps for the AMI bios code reports Base 64K RAM failure. You can test your memory. Go to memtest.org Scroll down the site to just under the three screen shots. Download Memtest86+ V2.11 You have a choice in making a bootable floppy disk or a bootable CD-ROM disk. Once completed you boot your system to the testing program. Memtest will check your system memory. This should help. Thanks for using FixYa! Mike
