the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Searching for satellite but never finds - what is wrong?

I had one like that last year, I found if I lied to it when it asked what state I was in, then it would find the satellites and work fine ... until the next time you turned it on. That one was fixed by installing new v7.2 firmware using Garmin WebUpdater through the USB port.

I've got one right now that won't find the satellites and the firmware trick didn't work. That's all I've got so far. Tom.

How to force pioneer u310bt gps to search for satellites

Hello,

The GPS should automatically search for satellites unless it is in Demo or Simulation mode.

Be sure to turn of the Demo mode.
Use the Navigation screen and touch the Demo button to turn on or off the mode.

When its receives a signal from a satellite it receives also information about satellite positions in the coming days. When you boarded the plane you must have turned off the GPS, so it could not keep track of your position. You land a long distance away and turn GPS on. It starts to search for the satellites according to the information stored in it that pertains to their positions over Dallas. It is unable to lock on the satellites. And then it was able to receive GPS signals from other satellites and all fell into place.

Yes it will happen again if you travel long distances in a short period of time. If you cannot keep it turned on during the trip, you should try to update satellite positions through Internet after you reset the time zone.
You should also be patient, and give it time to find its bearings.

Unable to get satellite reception

Make sure you are not moving and that you are on an open field with minimal aerial hindrances. It takes time for the GPS unit to acquire satellite signal and makes it difficult to acquire when you are moving so make sure you stop at an open are till it syncs with at least 3 satellites.

hope this helps!

I have a garmin streetpilot i3 and it cannot load the satalite

Hello balander,

In order for your GPS to calculate its own location, it needs to receive data reports from four or more GPS satellites. In order to receive these signals, the receiver must have a clear view of the sky. The GPS may be unable to receive these satellites if it is used indoors, inside of a vehicle (without an external antenna) or is around obstructions such as tall buildings, trees and local terrain such as mountains and hills.

I’d recommend that you try operating the GPS outdoors in a clear area away from obstructions. Turn the GPS on and allow up to five minutes for it to acquire satellites and get a “lock” on its current location. If it isn’t able to do this then your GPS or the antenna may be damaged and in need of service.

Best Regards,
Ken

Takes 30 minutes to locate satellites to begin navigation

Hello sassysdad,

In order to achieve a location lock your GPS receiver must receive complete reports from at least four Global Positioning Satellites. If you are standing still in an area with a relatively clear view of the sky, this should happen fairly quicky. However, if you are operating your GPS indoors, in a vehicle, or in an area with obstructions that block the line of sight between the receiver and the sky or if you are moving, it makes it more likely that the receiver will be unable to receive these signals or that part of the signals may be garbled or missed. In these cases it can take some time for the GPS receiver to aquire all the satellite data it needs.

Newer GPS receivers are much less susceptible to this issue, but it can still occur depending on how and where you are operating.

Best regards,
Ken

"Searching for Satelite" - unable to find

10-15 minutes is normal.
Did you take it outside? GPS doesn't work indoors. Try in an open field, no trees. Should lock in a few minutes. I always do the following: i key in the destination address at home, then put it under 'favourites". When i start driving, i put the unit in my car and look up the recently added favourite. The unit then has enough time to lock on to the satellites.
