If you open Start Menu,Computer, DVD/CD rom, and right click, eject? If it is damaged or there is something in it you may have to remove it and clear the obstruction.

You have open the swing down door and there is no pin hole, or no button on the device? Not the button on the outside of the swing down door but when it's open? You can turn the machine off and manually open the pry open the tray with a butter knife or something thin, I have done it when a DVD exploded in the Drive. But what is causing the issue? You never said, Is there a DVD inside? Can you see the DVD rom Icon in Computer? Is it a loose Power connection to the drive? Have you tried a reboot of the machine, remove AC plug wait a 15 seconds , plug in ,boot ?

Hi Max, In order of your questions.. Nope no pin hole, no botton on the device when the swing door is open. I have tried to pry it open with a dental pick, but the machine was not in the off mode. As far as I know there is no CD/DVD inside. It just decided not to open one day. I have no idea what is causing the problem.. When I had the side panel off the computer everything connected to it was securely attached that I could tell. I have rebooted several times. I don't know what a "AC plug" is. Where is it? I'll try that.

A DVD/CD rom is quite easy to replace, if that is the issue. Locate the power plug and ribbon cable connected to the DVD/CD rom and remove and reinsert. Of course with all power off, the plug from the AC source/ Wall outlet. Plug into power source, boot, any change? If no, Open Control Panel, Device Manager, DVD/CD Rom Drives, Is it listed?click on the drive, Is it enabled? Working? In error? Try to update driver or roll back driver.. LASTLY , Right click on thr DVD/CD rom, in Device Manager, and uninstall the device, reboot the machine and see if Windows Vista ID's the DVD/CD rom on reboot and locates the correct driver. You can do any harm it's already not working. What we are trying to do is force the machine to ID the device. That will help with the troubleshooting. If it iDs it it's not the mobo. What is the device Make and model, number?

I have several of these A1200 & A1300 Aspires. Eventually they all do the same thing. The CD/DVD drive will no longer open and there is no pin hole to manually eject the tray. I have replaced the drive a few times and the same problem eventually returns. And if I put the drive into a different brand computer, it works just fine.

SOURCE: Acer aspire sa80-9b7z won't start up. Fan starts

Firstly check the monitor, if you get 8 beeps as it is starting up, this points to graphics problems. Trying another monitor. If the problem remains, swap the graphics card or use the onboard graphics card.
If this fails and, more importantly, you are not getting any beeps (single beep would indicate your CPU is ok), the problem is likely to lie with the motherboard.
To help you further, please repost with the number of beeps if any, you get as it tries to boot up

Open CD drive

Your question is vague, but if your CD/DVD drive won't open you can try two things: Open your START menu and click on Computer. Find the CD/DVD drive under "Drives with removable storage". Right-click on it and select 'Eject'. If that fails, look on the side of the laptop where the CD opens. There is a very small hole into which you can stick the end of a paper clip you have bent for this purpose. Push the paper clip into the hole until you feel the latch release.

The tray on my samsung dvd r160 will not open. There isn't a small hole to stick a pin in and open manually. I've taken the case off but can't see anything out of place John

Only computer DVD drives have a hole in the front for you to eject the disk. See on the under side of the player if there is a **** or slot with an arrow marking for you to use a screwdriver and push the eject mechanism. Do it with the player unplugged from the main power.

I assume there is a specific reason that you mentioned the DVD drive won't open. Is it because there is a disk in it that you are trying to remove, and you can't because the laptop won't boot? You can open the DVD drive with a pin or paperclip. There is a little hole in the drive near the eject or open button. Insert a small pin or paperclip straight into that hole and push. It should pop open.
