When starting the washer, it occasionally will not fill
I am an American civil service worker living in Japan and working on a military facility. I own a Whirlpool washer & dryer, and am having problems getting the washer to fill with water when initially starting. To the best of my knowledge there are no Whirlpool repair facilities in Japan, or at least not in my area. The washer model is WTW5800SG0. When my wife starts the wash cycle, the water does not fill in the tub, and just goes right out the drain. Then she stops the machine and rotates the selector switch, and restarts the machine. Sometimes the tub will fill after doing this and sometimes it will not. Sometimes after stopping the machine, she will move the tub from front to back and the, adjusting the balance, and sometimes it will fill after doing this. I'm not convinced that anything she is doing is actually having an affect, but I am tired of my water bills increasing because we are losing water this way. I've leveled the machine, so I don't think that is the problem. Is this a problem with some part in the machine that is not working properly, and is this something that I can fix myself if I purchase the part? Any help I can get with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Re: When starting the washer, it occasionally will not...
Check the drain hose. The open end of the pipe the hose drains into must be higher than the top of the washer's tub (usually 30 inches or so off the floor, minimum) or the water can siphon right out. The drain hose should not be a sealed connection to the drain pipe. Try to extend the drain pipe up to about 36 inches off the floor level.

Start by looking behind the washer and unplug it first. then there will be a water type valve (like the ones outside your house/apt). Turn both of them Clockwise. This will definitely shut the water off! Riyad should have all the Major Manufactures there locally to service. If you are associated with the Military Base. They have service centers there that can help you. Saudi Arabia is quite developed. Probably won't get a Saudi person to service. (Below them!). Probably have to get a Pakistani Guy to do the work!
I think for this problem you should contact the service station or customer service of the company of which the washer is and ask them to send a worker to fix your problem and otherwise without actually and lively seeing it no one can give a solution.
To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.
Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.
Thanks for using FixYa. Error NF means No Fill. The washer has tried to fill but was unsuccessful. NF indicates No Flow. There is something that is interrupting the inbound flow of water to the washer, either hot or cold. Sometimes this happens when water service in the area is interrupted, creating an air pocket that causing the water valve not to sense water.
Try running the diagnostic test by—
Press the delicates and heavy soil keys together for 3 seconds.
You are in the service mode.
Now, press wrinkle free key, cold water should start entering.
Then, press the cotton sturdy and hot water should flow.
To exit the test mode, either unplug the machine or press the delicate and heavy soil again for 3 seconds.
Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
It sounds like the unit is under warranty - if so maybe this will help.
