Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

When starting the washer, it occasionally will not fill

I am an American civil service worker living in Japan and working on a military facility. I own a Whirlpool washer & dryer, and am having problems getting the washer to fill with water when initially starting. To the best of my knowledge there are no Whirlpool repair facilities in Japan, or at least not in my area. The washer model is WTW5800SG0. When my wife starts the wash cycle, the water does not fill in the tub, and just goes right out the drain. Then she stops the machine and rotates the selector switch, and restarts the machine. Sometimes the tub will fill after doing this and sometimes it will not. Sometimes after stopping the machine, she will move the tub from front to back and the, adjusting the balance, and sometimes it will fill after doing this. I'm not convinced that anything she is doing is actually having an affect, but I am tired of my water bills increasing because we are losing water this way. I've leveled the machine, so I don't think that is the problem. Is this a problem with some part in the machine that is not working properly, and is this something that I can fix myself if I purchase the part? Any help I can get with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Check the drain hose. The open end of the pipe the hose drains into must be higher than the top of the washer's tub (usually 30 inches or so off the floor, minimum) or the water can siphon right out. The drain hose should not be a sealed connection to the drain pipe. Try to extend the drain pipe up to about 36 inches off the floor level.

Service center saudi arabia

Start by looking behind the washer and unplug it first. then there will be a water type valve (like the ones outside your house/apt). Turn both of them Clockwise. This will definitely shut the water off! Riyad should have all the Major Manufactures there locally to service. If you are associated with the Military Base. They have service centers there that can help you. Saudi Arabia is quite developed. Probably won't get a Saudi person to service. (Below them!). Probably have to get a Pakistani Guy to do the work!

My washer sounds loud and sounds like it is spinning faster than it usually does

I think for this problem you should contact the service station or customer service of the company of which the washer is and ask them to send a worker to fix your problem and otherwise without actually and lively seeing it no one can give a solution.

I have a Kenmore 500 top-loading washing machine that we just bought 1 year ago. We just had some remodeling done in our kitchen/laundry room and all appliances were removed. After re-installing the...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The easiest thing to check (and likely the problem) is the Lid Switch.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

Error code NF? what does that mean?

Thanks for using FixYa. Error NF means No Fill. The washer has tried to fill but was unsuccessful. NF indicates No Flow. There is something that is interrupting the inbound flow of water to the washer, either hot or cold. Sometimes this happens when water service in the area is interrupted, creating an air pocket that causing the water valve not to sense water.

Try running the diagnostic test by—
  • Press the delicates and heavy soil keys together for 3 seconds.
  • You are in the service mode.
  • Now, press wrinkle free key, cold water should start entering.
  • Then, press the cotton sturdy and hot water should flow.
  • To exit the test mode, either unplug the machine or press the delicate and heavy soil again for 3 seconds.
Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

First, see the Sears parts list for your washer:!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.82891120&pathTaken=partSearch

Next, see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers:$FILE/L-55.pdf

It does sound like a Temp control problem. The Service Manual has testing procedures to verify the problem.

Also see the following for how to access the components in the Console.

Washing machine won't fill on rinse/spin cycle

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.81878110&pathTaken=partSearch

I'd also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for these washers. It has a troubleshooting section as well as test specs.$FILE/L-55.pdf

It sounds like a timer problem but I'd go thru as many of the Whirlpool test as I could before spending the money.

Also see the following on how to release the console to gain access to the components.

Also see the following "diagnostics chart"

Kenmore model# 110.23832100 will not fill up on rinse cycle

See the Sears site for your washer.!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.23832100+

First, I'd try it on a different cycle.

If it works, the problem points to the timer.

Following is a description of how to access the console.

Following also is a Whirlpool Service manual on top load direct drive washers.$FILE/L-55.pdf
