Definitive ProSub 80 hums - Audio Players & Recorders

Sorry. I posted this too quickly. When plugged in, the Pro80 emits a electronic, almost modem-like sound, as it comes to life. Then it begins to to emit a increasingly loud hum that build and levels of after 20 seconds or so. Volume controls have no effect. This happens whether the audio cable is plugged in, or not. Just needs to be powered on.

Prosub atmosair rebuild manual I have an older prosub that I got a rebuild kit for but need instructions to take it apart and rebuild it.

You need to consult with a factory technician. Your life depends on these devices. I am certified in USD Survivair and no one can set those after a rebuild kit without special tools and measuring devices.

ProSub 600 tripping off during playback of low bass and turns on after a while but works perfectly if volume is turned down. what could be the problem?

  • The DSW ProSub is a nice amplified sub. The reason it is shutting down is the amp is being worked to hard and it's going into thermal mode and after you turn down the volume and it cools down it's coming back on. To much of this and you will have a nice sub and no amp to run it.
  1. One thing to do is keep the sub/amp in a well ventilated are and put a fan on it if you can to help move the heat away from the unit.
  2. The amp is rated at 250 watts so if you push it to hard it's gonna keep shutting down. So turn it down a little so it runs longer and smoother or add another sub to the set up if you need it louder (like we all like). One sub can only do so much.
  3. Also make sure if the receiver your using has a base setting or an EQ that you keep them levels set a little lower. Most receivers and home theaters already have an amp in them and you don't want to run to much of that into another amp. It's over kill. Find that happy medium.

start at the basics, check home circut breaker box, ensure it is still plugged in, check the fuse subwoofer itself. unplug and disassemble, to ensure no moisture or a fried bug is the sorce of the problem, ensure the leads to the subwoofer havent popped off or become crossed, etc etc. hope this helps

Definitive Pro-Sub 1000 subwoofer replacement fuse.

Fit a 3 or 2.5 anything lower, if you can get away with it, but nothing higher.
However the chances are that it blew due to an overload, often caused by a shorted semi-conductor acting like it was a piece of wire. So even fitting a smaller one and it blowing again doesn't mean it's due to the rating.

Prove it's alive by feeding it the signal from any other source, like Left or Right Tape Out. Use FM as the source to keep things simple. Then we can move forward with analyzing the correct failing unit.

"Somthing seems to be wrong with the automatic on/off???" That's my guess too. Your sub requires a certain signal level to turn on, probably because of a sub-sonic filter. I just changed to another sub that did not have that "feature". Problem solved.
