Make sure bobbin is loaded correctly and unwinding in the correct direction. It does make a difference. Do a test seam. If not improvement....

Loosen top tension. Do a test seam to see if that helps. If it does, loosen some more until you have a balanced stitch.

Finally... if neither of those really help. Look on the bobbin case for the tension "spring" (it is flat) with two tiny screws. One holds it on... the other tightens or loosens tension. Tighten the tension on 1/4 turn. Do a test seam. Etc., etc., etc.

The only time one ever changes the bobbin tension is when they are either using substantially larger or substantially thinner thread.

Good luck.

My Elna sewing machine is sewing very loosely and it is very messy on the bottom side of my material, why?, and how can i fix it?

When your bottom thread is messy it is the top thread needing adjustment. Your machine may not be threaded properly and the thread may not be sitting correctly between the tension discs.
Check to make sure your machine is threaded correctly.
Check thread between the tension discs.
After checking, adjust the tension (tighter) and do a test. If it is still messy add some more tension and do another test.

Elna expressive 860. how do you change the spool tension? (my top thread started looking loose on my embroidery

Make sure that when you thread the machine, that the thread is always seated completely in the tension disks. Remove the thread and rethread from the beginning.

Why are the bottom threads looping and very loose my Elna 792 D overlocker?

Tension. When you thread your machine, be sure the presser foot is Always Raised. Also, when threading, give each thread an extra little tug when threading the tension disk--sometimes it will pop when it seats. If thread is not seated, the tension will be off.

The right hand needle on my elna 664 keeps breaking, can anyone help?

Make sure it is installed correctly (all the way up) and threaded correctly. Generally, when something goes haywire, it is best to remove all the threads, RAISE the presser foot, and rethread completely from the beginning. Also, grasp the thread above and below the tension disk and give each a little tug to verify it is seated properly.

Then set the tension dials to the midway point and test. If the needle continues to strike, then it may be out of time and need adjustment.
