While many problems can be solved by less drastic measures, Compaq owners sometimes need to restore their computers back to factory new condition.

If the operating system becomes corrupt, or if the computer is struck with a persistent virus, restoring the PC to its original factory default settings is often the best way to deal with the problem.

While older Compaqs relied on restore CDs to restore factory settings, newer machines come with a recovery partition built into the unit.

Shut down the Compaq computer and wait for it to power off.

Press the "Power" button to restart it.

Press the "F11" key as soon as you see a black screen.

This will boot the Compaq into the recovery partition.

Follow the on-screen instructions to back up any user files before the recovery process begins.

Click "Next" to start the recovery manager and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps.

Restore factory setting

John,

Dell Factory Image Restore The Dell Factory Image Restore tool replaces PC Restore. Access it from the F8 boot menu while booting up.

Once you have all the options on the screen, choose repair your computer and follow the prompts to restore.

CAUTION:
This utility formats the operating system hard drive partition prior to restoring the factory image. This means data on that partition is deleted and cannot be recovered.
If the customer creates a secnd partition with a third-party utility, Dell Factory Image Restore is not affected as long as the image partition is not removed.

Factory settings for my gateway disk partitions

Set 2 partitions. The first one at 50%of the space available and the second at 50% as well. This way you can have plenty of space for backing up files on the second partition.

I want to restore it to factory settings but i have formatted my hard disk. There is a partition drive labelled O.E.M

Hi, welcome to FixYa.

Are you sure you have formatted all partitions in your hard drive? If that so, it will become very difficult to restore the "factory settings" because the factory settings restore is kept in the on of the partition that you have formatted.

There are several softwares that claim are able to recover formatted partition, but I'ven't tried any. You can search for them.

I hope this can help you out.

Hi,

To restore the computer to factory settings, you can use the hidden recovery partition in the computer. Please restart and press and hold the F10 key to access the recovery partition. From the recovery tools window, please select "Restore C Drive" to get back the factory installed settings in the computer.

Thanks!!!!

I've got Aspire 6930 and the hdu's partitions have been erased. I got the factory recovery cd's. What do I need to do to restore the factory partitions?

How was the partitions erased? Did somebody reformat the whole hard drive itself or just a partition. If the hard drive was reformatted then there's no way you can recover the factory partitions. Normally ther will be a hidden partition in the hard drive in case you want to use the recovery cds that came with it. And thru this, it will restore the factory settings on your computer on the state where you first got it. There is another option you can recover deleted partitions in case when the hd was reformatted like the stellar software, etc. but you have to buy it.

You cant access the recovery partition because you probably has deleted them accidentally. Try to delete all the partitions and use the recovery CDs that come with your computer, they could help.

Good luck.
