Replacing the rope is not difficult but tricky. I believe that your model has a fuel tank on top of starter cover, empty fuel and remove tank to expose starter cover. Remove the starter cover and place it on your workbench with the plastic rewind spool visible and remove the old rope noting how it was tied. The rope is sold in various sizes from # 3 to # 6.5. Most mowers use a #4.5, with length of about 6 to 7 feet. You may not need this much but more is better. Now practice inserting the rope thru the hole where it comes out of the cover into the hole where it ties on the spool. Once you can do this you are ready to wind. The spool /spring winds when you pull the rope, that why it recoils when you let go of the rope. With that in mind, turn (wind) the spool in the same direction that it turns when you pull the rope. It should be getting tighter as you turn. Keep winding in the direction that it turns when you pull the rope untill it will not go anymore. It should be very tight. Now unwind one complete turn and align the hole of the spool to the hole in the housing and hold it there while you insert the rope from outside hole into the spool and tie knot. After the knot is tied slowly let rope rewind into the spool untill it stops on its own. You are done. You should have plenty of extra rope left to extend out to the handlebar. Enjoy

slip the spring through the rope hole attach it the rope pulley and wind it clockwise the spring will be pulled in make sure you set spring in its groove on the outside of cap the tighten it up by winding then let uncoil in cap

The pull start cord will only move about 3-4 inches and then it stops and then cord stops, Troy built- Briggs/Statton 21 inch self-propel lawnmower.

The mower's drive shaft may need to be lubricated. If you turn the mower over and try to move the blade by hand (with the mower off, of course) does it move, or is it hard to move? If it's hard to move or it won't move at all, lubricate the shaft by squirting some WD-40, 3-In-1, or other lubricating oil onto the drive shaft where it meets the chassis of the mower. Squirt enough oil to cover the circumference of the drive shaft, then try to spin the blade again. It should at least spin a little bit now. Squirt some more oil and spin the blade again, until the blade spins easily. Then turn the mower back over and try to pull the start cord -- it should pull normally now.

How do I replace the pull cord on the Troy Built Mower model # 12AI867Q011 serial # 1E098KC0419

You have two options. look up your models starter assy. at a dealer like www.arcolawn.com and replace it as a whole or purchase the rope remove the starter, charge the spring by twisting it all the way tight, back it off one turn and install the new rope. Tie your knots and reinstall the starter.

Thank you

My troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mower doesnt pull

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

Shrieking Lawnmower!! I hit small tree branch w/ walking non-drive 3.75 hp Briggs and Scrap-Iron "Sprint" off-brand gas mower. Started shrieking like banshee. Resulted in tangled pull-cord. So I removed...

sounds like you have dirt in the recoil clutch, (under the screen) or you bent something there. try removing the clutch and make sure shaft is very clean and lightly coated with oil. This would be for a briggs and stratton engine.

Starting issues. Can't pull cord.

Make sure your flywheel brake is not engaged or the cover is hindering the mechanism somehow after it is installed
