For DVI you need to probably upgrade your cheap graphics card, something not that expensive would be a ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro, it'll do. May want to check what pwer supply maybe required on your PC.

Not Good..
After you've checked that the video cable is connected properly, make sure that all the pins in the video cable plugs are straight and not broken off. Then test on another PC. Make sure your CMOS battery has not gone flat, as some PC's will fail to load basic drivers if CMOS memory is lost. The battery should show no less than 2.5v, if it's marked 3 volts when tested on a multimeter. If you can't test it, just buy a new one at the supermarket or hardware, usually around $4.00.
Next thing to try is your Video Card . If it is an on board one like most are now, there isn't anything you can do but try another card in an expansion slot or fit a new motherboard. At this point, I'm sad to say, you're better taking it to a PC shop where they will have a few things at their disposal to try.

You may have problem in the logic board, it uses surface monted components no much chance for DIY repair.
Service manual; http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=Acer&megnev2=AL2216W&kategoria=monitor&kat2=all

The cases these days are hard to open, they use plastic finger hooks types, they go in easy but real hard to remove without damageing them.
Use thin flat blade to crack open at the bottom edge so the scratches will not be so noticeable, and work your way around, look out for cables attached to the front bezel also.

Make sure the monitor works on a friend's PC using the DVI... let's not go backward to VGA when DVI is available on both the PC and monitor. If the monitor works, install the driver and reboot. It should work for you too.

Rgb connection stopped working on laptop

Instructions
    • 1 Decide if you want to watch the television on your computer or use the TV as a larger monitor. If you want to view the contents of the TV on your laptop, you need a video card connected to to the computer. These cards can either be inserted through the express PCI card slot on the laptop, or via USB cable. Make sure the video tuner card supports component video.
    • 2 Connect the DVI-to-component cable into the DVI port if you want to use the TV as a large monitor for your laptop. However, if you have a VGA port, plug the VGA-to-component cable into the VGA port.
    • 3 Plug the RGB component cables into the component side of the DVI- or VGA-to-component cable. If you want to watch the TV on your computer, insert the RGB cables into the TV video card.
    • 4 Plug the other end of the RGB component cables into the TV. If you are using the TV as a monitor, plug the cables into the "Component In" ports. However, if you are sending the TV signal to the computer, plug the cables into the "Component Out" port (the other end of the DVI- or VGA-to-component cable that you connected to your computer in Step 2).
    • 5 Power on the TV. If you are using the TV as a computer monitor, press the "Video" button until "Component Video" appears on the screen. If you are watching TV on your computer, launch the television viewing software that came with the TV tuner card. You can now see the contents of the TV on your computer.

When dvi plug is used screen gets funny bright colored lines

FIX for design fault of ASUS VW222u Problems with monitor using dvi while vga works fine.

my ASUS VW222u had the same problem many are reporting after about 8 months
with developing colored "noise" onscreen or dancing red pixels while using dvi but vga is fine.

luckily my old man is an electronics engineer, rather than be without a monitor since vga still works fine we decided to have a look.

we worked out the problem. note: this is a fix for the random picture noise problem while using dvi port.

If monitor works ok with vga but dvi has noise then this fix should work for you.

1.open monitor (will void warrenty)
2.unplug all the the cables going to the power supply and dvi port assembly, undo two screws pull down and out you wil now be looking behind the dvi port and be holding a metal module that contails power supply and dvi- and vga port.

3.you will notice a piece of brass foil joining the earths on your dvi and vga cable this is the problem creating an "earth loop" as both vga and dvi ports are earthed to the metal casing this extra earth is causing the problem introducing noise.

3.carefully unwrap the brass foil from the two cables and seperate, insualte cables with electrical tape. (wrap around each one seperately they should now be indiivdual cables)

4.you will notice a silver spring type peice of metal on the assembly that pushes against the
main body of the unit when re-assembled. scratch the metal with a screwdriver where this peice pushes so you get a good connection when you reassemble it, do not touch as finger grease could screw up the connection. (this step is not vital just a good thing to do why your in there to make sure the the unit is properly earthed)

4.re-assemble

enjoy, fixed mine and was quite easy, take care with the plastic latches they are tight - ensure you remove all 5 screws, to see the fifth easily the monitor stand must be removed (two screws then stand slides out from rear of case)

good luck

Is this monitor compatible with any desktop computer?

Your monitor will work with any computer.

Note, if your monitor only has a DVI cable, then you will need a VGA to DVI adapter if the new computer only has a DVI port but most new computers will have VGA.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya.

Computer won't recognize monitor driver

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.

Good luck to you

DVI input on monitor not working

Contacted viewsonic about this issue- they suggested- have both dvi and vga hooked up to same machine. start with poweroff on both. power on monitor, then power on computer. when you see display coming from the vga, power off pc, then disconnect vga cable, turn off power to monitor, disconnect power cord from monitor for 5 + seconds, reconnect power cord, power on monitor, then power on pc.
If this doesn't work to get the dvi working, (as happened to us) we returned our monitor for a replacement, since it was still under warranty.
