Question about Computers & Internet

Emachines 1201 spec

Had a disk crash and had to replace the HDD; backup disks were created way back but can't be found as we've moved house in the meantime. Have reinstalled Windows from a friends Windows disk, but have no Wifi and no sound, and don't know what drivers to try - don't have manual even. Just need something to tell me what the devices actually are so I can find the right drivers. I'd guess the sound is probably Realtek ac97 and will try that out, but no clue on the WiFi. Any help gratefully received...

Spam is junk mail If it is asking you to do something right away or within X hours, it is a good indication of spam mail. If it says something along the lines of "Dear Valued Customer" or "Dear [company name] Member," it is usually spam. Look for an email asking for personal information. Banks, eBay, Paypal and other online services make it very clear that they will NEVER ask you for your personal information, especially over email.

Sorry - wasn't clear - the solution printed above is a link to one of those pervasive 'download managers' that basically f*@k up your PC....my bad

  • Robin O'Neill Dec 01, 2012

BTW Brian, your earlier response did partly solve my problems - I realised I hadn't checked to see if the WIFI was switched on and had just assumed it wasn't working as I'd just re-installed Windows and hadn't put in any drivers. Should have thought of it myself; used to be in the trade before I retired...lol

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon.

This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look (((·)))

Make sure its pressed on.

The internet connection is located in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

The icon looks like a series of rectangles that increase in size from left to right.

Right-click the Wi-Fi icon and select "Connect to a network." You will see a list of available wireless networks.

Choose a Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and select "Connect."

Enter the password into the password text box if a password is required.

If a password is not required, you will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Click "OK."

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to sound video and game controllers you might see a yellow question / exclamation? ! mark or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers

If your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it

or you might download slimdrivers.

Don't use the pre installed backup software, just grab an external HDD or a second internal HDD and do it manually.

It looks like you'll have to either return it or perform a default factory recovery. These instructions are from their site but proceed knowing that this will erase any data that is stored on the primary partition (meaning if you have anything on it, it's gone...). Esentially it resets it to a point as if you just picked it up in the store (which you did.. :( )

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?
With user created backups you are able to restore your computer to the factory default settings. If backup discs were created instead of factory restore discs, these can be used instead and will restore the system to a user backup point.
If you have a recovery disk:

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?
With user created backups you are able to restore your computer to the factory default settings. If backup discs were created instead of factory restore discs, these can be used instead and will restore the system to a user backup point.
    1. Ensure that the computer is completely shutdown, then turn on the computer.
    2. When the eMachines splash screen appears, tap the Alt and F10 keys simultaneously. A screen stating "Starting eMachines eRecovery" should appear.
    3. From the recovery options, choose Restore system from CD/DVD.
    4. Insert either the first Recovery or Backup disc that you created.
    5. From the on-screen options, choose a backup.
    6. Click OK and the installation will begin.
    7. Change the disc as necessary when prompted.

If you do not have a recovery disk:

    8. Restart the computer.
    9. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
    10. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
    11. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.

Smart failure predicted on hard disk 0:TOSHIBA MK4025GAS-(PM) warning :immediately back-uo your data and replace your hard disk draiver A failure may be imminent

It means that your hard drive is going to crash soon. If all of your important stuff is on there and you don't have an external hard driver or flash driver, shut down the computer until you do. Once you own another hard drive, boot back up and start the backing up process. There is a fantastic free backup program available here: http://www.fbackup.com/

One trick I've found that works is placing the hard drive in a refrigerator for 30 mins before using it. This will extend it's life by at least 15 minutes.
Good luck to you, and pleas leave me a positive rating! :)

If you have Lenove Desktop then there must be 100% sure the Hard Disk with Western Digital make and has gone faulty. No option left but replacing the HDD. You can contact with Lenovo support for the same issue if it's under warranty.

Emachines t5212 system restore backup files, please help!!

Hello,

If you only your files to be copied in the other or any storage disk then you can remove the hard disk of your machine and then attached it to the other functional machine. in there you can browse and copy all the important files. after copying all your files then you can take back the hard drive to your non functional machine and then install new operating system. documentation found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

tell me if something wrong with your system when applying the solution.

Backup EEROM
This Service Utility is used to restore the contents of the EEROM
when a service engineer has replaced the Main PCA or the Hard

backed up on the hard disk, is restored to the Main PCA and if the
Hard Disk Drive is replaced the EEROM content is saved to the new
Hard Disk Drive.
Before using this utility, make sure that you are using Firmware
version A.02.xx. If NOT, make sure that you upgrade the
Firmware version to A.02.xx BEFORE using this utility.
1. In the Service Utilities submenu, scroll to "1.6 Backup EEROM"
and press Enter.
2. Select the part that has been replaced and press Enter
3. If you select "Hard Disk Drive (HDD)" a message confirming
selection is displayed. Press Enter to confirm and exit this utility or
press Back to cancel.
4. Press Back to return to the Service Utilities menu.

hello,
I would try to use the windows backup and recovery feature if it's enabled. restore it to the previous day, also, for the windows system, did you create a backup disk. if so you should be able to reload any pre-existing programs to your system by running a restore from the recovery. without loosing all your personal files. also some will have an option when creating a recovery disk to make an applications recovery disk. If you haven't created these, i would check into this in the future.
