Http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/index.html You will need to type motherboard name ID and the cpu ID Significance Upgrading to more modern operating systems depends on the type of processor in the computer. One of the main differences between the two systems is that a 32-bit operation requires either a 32-bit or 64-bit processor, while a 64-bit version must have at least a 64-bit processor. Identification The operating system will register different on each computer that is running the platform. When a user clicks on the Start button, they can go to the Control Panel, followed by the System and Maintenance tab and click on System. This will show whether the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system
Hope this helps.

Hi, according to the Dell website you have a LGA775 socket on your motherboard. Therefore, you can only buy processors that fit into this socket. Here is a list of some offered by Intel that will work: Celeron D 325 2.53 GHz Celeron D 330 2.66 GHz Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz Celeron D 340 2.93 GHz Pentium4 520 2.8 GHz Pentium4 530 3.0 GHz Pentium4 540 3.2GHz Pentium4 550 3.4 GHz Pentium4 560 3.6 GHz Pentium4 570 3.8 GHz The processors that won't work are the ones that are not compatible with this socket. Everytime you look up a cpu it will tell you which socket it is designed for. To buy a cpu you will need to decide: The brand you want. The speed of the cpu that you want. Extras i.e. Hyperthreading, etc. How much you are willing to pay for it. Then you can narrow your search as you stick within your limits. Let me know if you have more questions. Good Luck

The fastest processor for that motherboard is the Northwood. 3.46 Extreme Processor:

Since the Dell chassis is proprietary, a standard motherboard will not easily adapt, it would be better to replace the system than to try an upgrade this one.
Testimonial: "Very helpful advice and too the point. Based on this information, I plan to build rather than upgrade my Dell. Thanks, Dageezer!"
