I can hear but cannot see the person I am speaking to. They can see and hear me. Both of us have the same webcam and are using MSN Messenger for the video call.

Hi,
Your friend needs to go into Tools . Audio and Video Setup, click Next past the audio settings and choose USB Video Device from the list. The camera will turn on within 2 seconds. Then Apply.
