ALL PANEL AND METER LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING

HI, I JUST RECEIVED A MCINTOSH MC-602 STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER AND WHEN IT GOT HERE AND WE FIRED IT UP ONLY 1 OF THE METER LIGHTS WORKED, SO WE WENT AHEAD AND FULLY WIRED IT UP WITH THE SPEAKER CONNECTIONS, BALANCED PREAMP INPUTS AND THE 12 VOLT REMOTE TURN ON WIRE. THIS TIME THERE WERE NO LIGHTS WORKING BUT THE AMP WORKS PERFECTLY WITH THE CLEAN FULL SOUND YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A MAC 600 WATT PER CHANNEL AMPLIFIER THAT IS ONLY 3YRS 2MOS. OLD ! I HAVE ONE BIG ISSUE MYSELF AS I DON'T HAVE HANDS AFTER A SEVER ELECTROCUTION AND FIRE I WAS SUBJECTED TO ON THE JOB 11 YEARS AGO SO I CAN'T TAKE IT APART MYSELF.....IN FACT I HAD MY SON AND A FRIEND COME FROM OUT OF TOWN JUST TO BRING THIS 155LB BEAST DOWNSTAIRS TO MY LISTENING ROOM BECAUSE MY WIFE AND CAREGIVERS COULD NO WAY DEAL WITH MOVING THIS THING. MCINTOSH MENTIONS THAT THE PANEL AND METER LIGHTS HAVE REGULATED POWER AND I KNOW THAT THE BULBS RUN AT 12 VOLT AC, ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED !!!! I GUESS I'D HAVE TO HIRE A MOVING COMPANY TO MOVE IT, THE SOUND IS WORTH IT, THANK YOU, ROBERT

PROFESSIONAL ELECTRICIAN?? TECHNICIAN? MY MCINTOSH MC-602 IS A ROBUST 155LB STEREO AMPLIFIER THAT WILL COST $680 ROUND TRIP TO TRUCK TO THE MAC FACTORY, I NEED A BETTER ANSWER THAN THAT OR I GUESS I'LL TAKE THEM UP ON THEIR MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, GREENSTONE7

THANKS GINKO BUT I'M GOING ON TO SEE IF ANYBODY OUT THERE IS MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE NEWER MCINTOSH UNITS, WE DID AUTOMATICALLY CHECK THE CONNECTION STATUS ON BOTH BOARDS AND EVERYTHING WAS CLEAN AND TIGHT, ONE PCB HAS 8 12VAC BULBS DIRECTLY SOLDERED TO IT AND THE OTHER PCB HAS I THINK 8 MORE, WE DIDN'T TAKE THE FRONT PANEL ALL THE WAY APART FOR FEAR OF BREAKING THOSE NARROW PCB'S THAT ARE HELD IN PLACE BY NYLON PINS THAT MUST EXPAND AT THE ENDS TO HOLD TIGHT. VOLTAGE WAS AT 12 VOLTS AC ON 1 OF THE 3 WIRES GOING TO EACH BOARD, MAYBE 2 OF THEM ARE SUPPOSED TO BE 12V AND 1 THE RETURN, I MAY JUST END UP SHIPPING THE WHOLE BEAST TO THE FACTORY, I HAVE 16 MCINTOSH UNITS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I EVER HAD A PROBLEM, THE GUY WHO SOLD IT TO ME IS TRUSTWORTHY AND HE SAYS EVERYTHING WAS WORKING BEFORE SHIPMENT, COULD THE AMP BEEN SUBJECTED TO SOME KIND OF STATIC CHARGE IN SHIPMENT? PHYSICAL SHOCK IS DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE OEM PACKAGING THIS THING SHIPS IN, MASSIVE DOUBLE BOX AND CUSTOM FOAM INSERTS, I HAD FULL INSURANCE ON IT BUT IT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT TO PROVE THE LIGHTS NOT WORKING AFTER SHIPMENT , GREENSTONE7

We really appreciate ur business Mr. Greenstone....

Now  Lets start with basic :)

I hope, u might have lot of questions in mind as well as the solutions offered by other experts might loom absurd.....

 Not an issue.....
I would appreciate if u may download this manaul :)
http://www.2shared.com/file/4633718/4e6482e1/MC602om.html

Make sure u have all the connections in right place...
Does that solve the issue, No....not to worry...lets move on to next step ......
Then we will check "FUSE"....

he fuses are there to protect the internals of the AMP.....
Please check that the correct fuses are installed......
if the incorrect ones are installed then a fire may develope...

There should be a manufacturers lable on the external chassis that details the fuses to use....

Fuses now days can be slow blow or fast blow....so the correct fuses must be used.....dont increase the fuse rating past the chassis panel label...but make sure they are correct...if they are correct then the amp needs a service to determine where the peak loadings to the power supply are originating from...

Some one may have installed incorrect fuses in the past...

I hope it wld help u to find the correct way to esolve ur concern...........

Thanks.

As the bulb which were connected before in the machine got blowned its indicating that there is something getting short in your machine otherwise the bulbs will not blow directly.also just replace the single  bulb only  and reconnect the connection and check out.if its working then the connections are proper so you can carry connecting the other bulbs by checking the proper voltage at the ends of the wire.

Well , that looks like a lose connection.

The Amp must be taken apart, and then you check the connector to the front panel. Ensure has contact and there is no oxide.

Also check that there are no bad solder joint, both on panel and on the board, near to where the panel hooks up.

The panel may also fail because of overvoltage if you have a different faulty component on board, like a blown or defective capacitor for example.

The unit can be fixed with a good technician working on it at component level for a couple of hours, apart components, I do not think there is any part to replace.

You might actually have to Replace the Circuit Board for the Lights. This is a Common Fix for these Amplifiers.

Hello, I have inherited a McIntosh MC-7270 amp, and plan on wiring it to my two Bose 201s to test before selling. I need to know how to properly wire the speakers to the amp. The rear of the amp looks...

Well what you are dealing with is a HI-FI tube amplifier. The reason it has COM, 1, 2, 4 and 8 are because it does not have a transistor driven output. It has a transformer coupled output. The 1,2,4,and 8 are the different taps of the transformer in order to impedance match your load (speaker) with the tube power section. This amp is 270 per channel and your speakers are only suggested to 120Watts. You would use the Negative to the common terminal and the plus to your 8 ohm terminal on the Amp. This is a great amp, you should keep this and not sell it.

I need a owners/operating manual i can download & print for a mcintosh mc 300.

HI daisyo1

You can get a copy from this site. The file needs a password to download from this page, the owner of the site is quite cooperative, and when he checks his emails(every few weeks or so) he apparantly will just send you the password. He likes to swap for other files if you have any :)

If it does not work out, please let me know here and I will look further for you. Cheers
Thanks for using FixYa.
