SOURCE: Sony STR-DE945 5.1 Channels Receiver

Hi, Happened across this forum looking for some remote info. Had a similar problem with my 945...main speaker outputs started to click off & on, no rhyme or reason. Found that the solder joints on the speaker output relays were cold (poor soldering). Actually happend twice, two different relays. Took me a while to find it, reflowed the solder, that solved the problem, over two years ago now. Are you able to dig into the receiver? Do you have a (good) soldering iron and some solder? If not take it to elec. shop and tell them to look for cold joints on the relays.

SOURCE: Stuck!

I was able to fix this issue by opening up the receiver, removing the circuit board that the power button and speaker selector knob contact, and then reseating that board back onto the circuit board it was connected to (the one with the majority of the control buttons).  This completely resolved the problem.  The power button works again and the audio does not drop out anymore.

SOURCE: StR-DE945 stuck in auto protect mode

I had a mechanical problem with the relay on the 1st power supply board. The relay right next to the small transformer. The blac cover for the relay just comes right off. Make sure that the little black plastic piece is still in position (you'll see what I mean when you open it.) and check the contacts on the relay.

My str de 945 will not power up when i hit the power button

Most often that is caused by a failure in the power supply or one output channel. Try disconnecting all the speakers and see if it will power up (relay click) without them. If it does they you have poor connections at the back or the receiver or the speakers. Possibly a failed speaker. If the unit powers up then add one speaker back at a time and repeat the start up. Make sure that no bare wires are touching each other anywhere. If that doesn't solve the problem or if it won't start up with no speakers then it's a trip to the repair shop time.

In radio mode, all speakers do not work

Radio will default to 2 channel stereo. You will need to use one of the soundfield processing modes to expand. Try using surround mode button to get to 6 channel or pro-logic.

No Center Sound

it probably isn`t :) it should be a problem with the settings :) i have a str de335 too and i get decent sound.. it depends on what type of source of input u`re using . try this.. hook up a stereo source. go into setup mode.. select wide or normal setting for center, then activate sound field .. c-studio for example.. if the sound is annoying something is wrong with the amp.. :-s btw use the delay settings from 1-6 6 if they are close together :) . When using 5.1 input... turn off soundfield always.. and triple check center settings&levels
