The dryer stopped working while in use. There is now no power going into the machine. It is a Bosch Maxx 7 dryer.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

My whirlpool duet dryer periodically has no signs of power. No lights, no digital lit numbers, no nothing. After a few hours it suddenly starts working. Any ideas?

Intermitent problems are the greatest challenge. I would check for a fuse usually located inside the back large back cover of the dryer. A fuse can be checked with a multi-meter with the ohm meter and when one touches the probes to both sides of a fuse, the ohm meter should go to zero. A fuse that has failed will not go to zero. The fact that the problem is intermitent leads me to believe that the fuse may be about to fail or that a wire to one side of the fuse may have come loose. Remember that a dryer does vibrate and wires can come loose in time. Be sure to unplug the dryer before checking the fuse. Whirlpool and Kenmore are I believe made by Whirlpool. Check Searspartsdirect.com for the needed fuse. Have the Model # and serial number handy to facilitate the process. Good Luck

Maybe a defective start button?

Our dryer wont start is there a reset button

Hello,
Their is no reset button but what most likely caused that is a blown thermal fuse. the thermal fuse is located in the rear of the dryer behind the back panel,in the housing where lint filter fits into. The thermal fuse is white in color and oval shaped with 2 blue wires to it. IF bad it must be replaced since it is not resettable. To check it DISCONNECT POWER TO DRYER remove wires to it and use a ohm meter set to a low setting and check it for Zero ohms,if the display on the meter shows OL it is bad.

The dryer light comes on, so we feel it's getting power. But, when I push the start button nothing happens............

The first thing that you want to check is if you have full power coming into the machine. Just because the light is on doesn't mean that one side of the breaker is not tripped. Once thats done the next step is to check the motor control fuse. You will need to remove the back of the machine to access this part. Once the back is off, the fuse will be a thin, white plastic fuse with two wires going to it located on the lower left side if your standing behind the dryer. With the machine unpluged, disconnect the wires, take a ohm meter and check for continuity on the fuse, if you have none the fuse is bad. In cases where you don't have a meter, you can take the two wires off, connect them together with electrical tape, then plug the machine in and press the start button to see if it comes on. If it does the fuse is bad and needs to be replaced. Remember though, before you do any of this, check the breaker, and also makes sure the door switch is working properly, you can check that by pressing it in and seeing if the light in the dryer turns off. Hope this helps and good luck

hello there:
Testing with an ohm meter checking on a dryer....
These are the places that pass voltage to the heater elements on an electric dryer. In order to check a dryer for no heat, here is a list of places to check. Remember to always unplug the appliance before starting testing with an ohm meter. Always remove wires from the part you are testing with an ohm meter ( write down what goes where first before removing any wires ).
Meter testing and usage tips.
1. Power supply-check power supply at terminal block where cord enters the dryer. Should read 240V. If you read 240V here, tested with a volt meter, unplug dryer and test components with ohm meter.
2. Thermostats-Cycle and safety thermostats-read them with an ohm meter. Should show continuity . How common thermostats work.
3.Timer-The timer has a set of contacts that pass voltage to the heaters. If you can not determine by wiring picture what they are, check across the two terminals with the largest wires on them. The heater wires are almost twice as large as the others. You should read continuity with timer in heat mode.
4. Thermal fuses-In recent years the makers of dryers are using thermal fuses to let you know something is wrong with your dryer. They are generally non resetting and have to be replaced. The thermal fuses are located on the heater element housing and should read continuity if read with an ohm meter. Most blown thermal fuses are the result of vent/air flow problems or a grounded heating element.
5. Selector Switches-Read the wiring picture and determine which switch is closed. You should read continuity across closed switches.
6. Safety Switch on Motor-There is a safety switch on motor to insure that heaters can not come on unless motor is running. It is normally open when the motor is idle/not running, and closes when motor runs. In order to check with an ohm meter, remove the two large wires on motor switch and make them electrically safe. Tape them. Plug the dryer in and start motor. Check continuity across the terminals on the motor switch you removed the heavy wires from. If it is ok you should read continuity. Remember that the smaller wires in a dryer carry the 120V and the large wires carry 240V. There is no voltage on these two terminals with wires removed. It is ok to test with ohm meter.
7. Heat elements-Test heater element with an ohm meter. You will read continuity across a good element 8-12 OHMS

Kenmore Dryer only lights gas sporaticly

replace the igniter. The ignitor is the most comon problem with gas appliances checking continuity does not tell you if it is bad or not it has to draw a certain amount of amps to open the gas safty valve and the is no safe way to check this on most gas dryers
