Question about Gateway GTW-P42M102 Television

Open Question

Gateway 42" plasma tv turns on- clicks- see hourglass- then fades to black- click -off, shampo GTW-p42m102

Started a few weeks ago, turn on tv with remote or manually, you would hear a click like it's turning on, then a darkened blueish balck screen- normally blue, comes up. See the hour glass for maybe three turns then fades to black and click it goes off. When it started this I would unplug it for maybe 10 minutes then plug it in and turn it on. It worked. I had heard this is a common problem caused by a bad solder so we took off the back. OMG! Does this problem sound familiar? Does anyone have a diagram of witch board I should detach and check solder spots? anything anyone can supply me with as to info I would be most gratefull. I've never had an issue with this tv before and would like to keep it forever if possible! LOL terims@gmail.com

SOURCE: I have a gateway 42"

Hi

Its not a power supply issue, but an issue related to the D-board on your TV. There would be swollen/bulged capacitors on this board. To check this you'll need to remove the back panel of the TV. Check the connections to and from the D-board. Make sure the lamp connections are fine and ballast is not burnt. Also check if all cooling fans are working.
Note-- Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note that the TV consists of very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

I actually bought the 5 year warranty when we purchased this new and it was still under warranty. Gateway is sending us a brand new TV. No need for me to try to fix this, but thanks to all involved.

Sorry to tell you a common problem with these sets. It is a bad capacitor in the main power supply.. There are really about three of them that go bad from time to time to cause this problem... If your not a tech you should find an authorized repair facility as a non authorized is not going to know what to do to fix it and it will most likly cost you double to repair. Good luck and let us know how you got it fixed.
