If the web camera came with an installation disk, use the disk to install drivers then plug the web camera in a USB port. The computer should recognize it. If it is properly recognized it will work with all applications that support a webcam (Skype, MSN, Google chat..) If it is not recognized and you do not have an installation software, you should go to the manufacturers web site to download appropriate drivers.
if you bought a web cam ..usually it come with a driver CD ..and the procedure in this case is to insert the CD in he drive ..and run it ...usually they have an auto-play and installs all drivers suitable for the operation system and if it has programs related..for operating it .. after you finished installing the driver ..restart the computer and plug the camera ..it will find it and auto-install .. when the installation is complete ..the camera will be seen by its name and a balloon will notify you in the right area of the task bar that the device is installed and ready to use.. After that ..you can use it to take snaps from my computer folder..or use it for video calls over the instant messaging programs ..or for to capture video using the AM cap program that came on the disk or using the windows movie maker from the operation system ..or any other capturing program ..
Unfortunately, you're going to have to buy one or two more cameras.
The A470 was not designed to stream images and videos to a computer, but to record them onto a memory card. It cannot be used as a webcam. Nor cannot it be connected to a computer to save images directly to your hard disk.
Canon's digital SLRs can store images directly to your computer using dedicated software, but they cannot be used as webcams.
So, if you want a webcam, you need to acquire one. Likewise, if you want to save images directly to your computer, you need a camera that can do that. Some webcams can record and store still images, but they tend to be rather low-res, often only 640x480 (0.3 megapixels). Even HD video is only 2 megapixels. Webcams and cameras are two completely different things.
