a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

SOURCE: Connecting laptop audio to tv
i had the same issue with a thinkpad T61 which i was connecting using VGA and a audio jack going straqight from the headphone socket to the back of tv.
I had picture but no sound and i found that once connected the issue could be solved by rotating the projection setting on the laptop(Fn+F7). Basically switched back to laptop only display, then back to laptop and projector display again and teh sound just kicked in.
i think it's related to the projector setting on the laptop rather than an issue with the tv.

one quick fix you can try. plug in the HDMI cable, slect a digital audio sound output from the sound settings on your machine, then leave it connected and restart it. It just might work.

What you can do is to look at the back of the TV and search for an audio out. The presumption here is that this TV is a newer Flat Panel and has too many connections on the back of the screen. It will be confusing, but it may be by itself and it will say "Audio Out" or "Digital Out" (Digital Out is best). If this is not true you can connect the Headphone out to the Pre-Amp through a 1/8th to RCA cable connection from Radio Shack. When you find it you can connect this output to your Pre-amp or AV Receiver with standard RCA cables or "Optical Cables" (Optical Cables are best) and really enjoy the movies with as much Butter on your Popcorn as you can stand but watch out when it gets scary because the Popcorn will fly.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your quick reply. I checked for audio "outputs", nope. I'm gonna use the earphone output into a preamp. That'll turn off the TV speakers. "
