Well I had a code 15 error with mine LIDE 20. Apparently the scanner needs a certain amount of power to run off the USB port. So I changed the USB port and problem fixed

pls update the driver
pls clean the scan glass , if it helps otherwise
ur CCD engine inside the scanner is weak now after use there is no point in getting it replaced as it is not worth pls find a new scanner
HP are excellent and MUSTEK are good and economical
pls rate me if i diagnosed ur fault

Make sure the USB cable is properly connected at both ends. Close the Canoscan software and then reopen it and try again.
