Question about Shop Vac (464-38-10) Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum
Need to dismantle the motor to replace the carbons, but cannot take out the flywheel, try using WD40 overnight, does it loosen anti clockwise or clockwise. Thank in advance.

open the top of the vacuum. remove ONLY the filter element. There should be a ball about a two inch diameter inside the cage. It's purpose is to shut off the vacuum flow when water reaches a high in the canister.

well if you can find the motor ( find a place that deals with the manufacturer directly so you get the right part ) and it isnt to expensive, most shop vacs are pretty easy, if you look under the top you should see about four screws, remove those and the top should come of giving you access to the motor, take note about the wires and what they hook up to. i doubt the motor is fastend down other than that.

If you are going to use the wet vac to remove water, be sure to remove the bag inside the canister first. Also, some wet vacs have an internal float that has to be installed, but that may not be the case with yours.

There are two (or is it three) plastic screws on the underside of it. This allows it to be partially split so you can clean the area around the brush roll.
To strip it further needs a Torx T15 bit, but I don't advise doing that unless you know what you are doing and are confident about the re-assembly.
Cleaning around the brush roll area is all most people need to do with these and that is a simple matter.

Keep it on. The purpose is to give you something to clean, a time or two, rather than have to replace the more expensive filter. I know it seems redundant, but all of the pieces filter better than just a bag. Also, if the bag gets any damp or wet material, it breaks and your next filters are the foam and paper filter.
