In this case, you have few choices. If you reinstall the OS you will wipe out everything on the PC already and start fresh. If you have left yourself a backdoor to get it with a second account that has administrator privileges, you can reset it that way. Finally, there are password recovery programs available. These you'll have to purchase. If there are important and irreplacable files on the hard drive now, it would be a small enough price to pay to get them back. Just Google Password Recovery Software and browse through the offerings.
Sorry there is no quick fix for this. In the future, create 2 admin accounts for just such an occasion.

Which Password? Bios Password?Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista?Windows 7?OK,if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've gotto have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops withwindows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do whenyou buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling theOperating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator(hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once thedesktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

I forgot my vista logon password cannot get past the logon screen. I also changed out my cmos batt with hopes that if a replaced the batt that the password would be reset. nope

Follow this steps: 1.Download Windows Password Unlocker from Password Unlocker Official site
2.Decompress the Windows password unlocker and note that there is an .ISO image file. Burn the image file onto an blank CD with the burner freely supported by Password Unlocker.
3.Insert the newly created CD into the locked computer and re-boot it from the CD drive.
4.After launched the CD, a window pop up with all your account names(if you have several accounts) select one of the accounts that you have forgotten its password to reset it. Just one press, this software can remove screen password instantly.
You will reset your password easily.
