Question about Sharp LC-C4662U 46 in. TV

1 Answer

With the out of warranty lcd tv Sharp recommended a service in town and they after about 5 minutes determined that I need to replace the inverter boards. They wanted over $500 so I deciced to replace them myself. Installed the boards and after plugging in the power the unit "clicked" then when I pushed the power button it clicked again then aftger about 8 seconds clicked the second time and nothing. The led started flashing steady on-off-on-off. When I first plugged in the led was on solid, now after all the clicking it continues to flash on and off. Does any one have any idea what is going on here? Thanks, Risho

SOURCE: Sharp LC-26D43U Power light flashes and unit won't turn on?

It's a power supply related problem. When it turns itself off, this it called protection mode. The TV automatically turns off to protect other parts form being damaged.
The most common problem is the Power Supply Unit or the Backlight Inverter Board.
You may have to take the TV to a repair shop to find out which one is bad. Paying a repair shop to replace the board for you maybe more than the TV is worth. If you let them diagnose it and you replace the bad circuit board yourself, it would be cheaper.

Here's a place I use to get parts for TVs:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=LC-26D43U&p=1
The problem is the repair shop may charge you double or three times of what the part costs at the web site link above. Then, plus labor. I just want to save you money. :)

Green light is flashing tv will not turn on held down power on on tv and light turned red then yellow starts for 3 sec and shuts back down any ideas

Your TV has a bad inverter more than likely. There is nothing you can do to fix your TV except replace the part that is damaged. I recommend contacting Sharp and seeing if the TV is still under warranty. Most of the time they can dispatch a technician to replace the part for you. If you have to replace the part yourself then I recommend simply buying a new 32" TV since the cost of repair and parts will easily be in the three hundred dollar range.

My sharp aquos 30 inch tv will not come on. what could be the problem

Hello; I have an similar LC30HV2U for sale in my TV repair shop for $350. This is a 2 piece unit. The AV box and the monitor. I am also a Sharp authorized servicer. In the monitor there are 2 inverter boards on the right side that have an 80 % chance of causing this problem. This set counts "lamp errors" due to one or more inverters not working on startup. Once the set accumulates 5 lamp errors, It will not allow the set to come on. The first thing Sharp tells us is to replace both inverter boards. About $90 each. If those don't fix it the cost will go much higher due to a bad power supply board or bad LCD Panel. Hope this helps, John

My flat screen Poloroid TV went black, it hissed and cloud of gas or smoke escaped from the back of the TV and now I have no picture just sound. Is it dead?

No troubleshooting needed for this issue. Check the tv's warranty then call the manufacturer to get this tv replaced or fix. If tv's out of warranty you still need to call the manufacturer to ask where is the closest Service center that can fix your tv.

Green light is on but screen is black

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

The TV will not turn on, any typical problems?

Not focused at your model pacifically. Typical problems like yours are happening to lots of other flat screen TVs in other brands.
Try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

I am thinking about buying a used 65 sharp

I wouldn't recommend buying it unless it came with some type of warranty.
The most common thing you would be looking at for repairs if something goes wrong would be the Backlight Inverter Board or the Power Supply Board. It's what powers the big screen like that. Replacement board for one of them would be well over $200. And we're not talking about labor on top of that from the repair shop.
If you get it, try to get warranty with it. Add on extended warranty if possible.

Have sound but no picture?

Use the source button to ensure that souce is not set to the wrong input.

Try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, to ensure it is not a setting problem.

If problem persist and does not depend on external receiver or settings, then it is likely an internal fault.

If it has sound but no picture then one of the following parts is faulty, and must be tested and replaced:

The inverter is the high voltage board that provides variable power to the backlight lamp. This is the most common. When inverter is faulty you can get no picture, or a very dim picture that can only be seen by pointing a torch light with a 45 degree angle on the LCD surface from very near distance.
The inverter must be tested by reading voltages with a multimeter.

The LCD ribbon cable/LCD display and connectors.
This is quite uncommon, but happens. If the TV had been hit or moved the LCD cable may have slipped out, or the LCD connector may be damaged.

The LCD controller board.
This is the board that controls the video signal, it is difficult to test, as there is need to read determined values on IC pins. To test this board you need to purchase a service manual and follow the troubleshooting diagrams on service manual.

From description it looks like a faulty inverter, I think that is the first part to test.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual.

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Flashing green power light with no picture

9-if the tv is still under the manufactuer warranty i would definitly give them a call. If it is a Sharp tv I would call the 1-87-BESHARP. I would also try unplugging the tv for at least 2-3 minutes and seeing if the tv will reset itself. Usually what happens with these tv's when the light blinks it locks the tv as a security issue. If the unplug does not help it will more than likely need service to get this fixed for you. The call line hours are M-F 7am-7pm S-S 9-5 and they will be glad to help you from there.
