Question about Whirlpool MH1150XMQ Microwave Oven
I have a whirlpool microwave hood combination Stainless Steel model # MH1150XMS-# I have had for 2 1/2 years. I went to bed at about midnight last night and it was fine. When I woke up in the morning, the out glass in the door was shattered, but still intact. I called whirlpool and they acted like they had never heard of this happening and told me it would cost $185.00 plus tax and shipping just for the door and that a repairman HAD to replace it and I would have to pay for that too. Is this common, could there be a recall on it? I also have a stainless steel Frigidaire stove that has 4 small glass squares which tell you what temperature setting you have the elements set to (h, 7 , lo etc.) and 3 out of 4 of these are cracked. What is going on as I am dumbfounded. Please help. I think it will cost more to replace the door than the cost of a new microwave!
There are several parts which can cause the unit to be dead, mainly the fuse, thermostat, thermal cutout, or control panel. You can find critical safety info and disassembly tips ay my site via my listing here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can get handy exploded views and order any neededparts here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Not sure about that model number though - you might want to verify that.

SOURCE: Inner 'glass' of door
The inner glass can and should be replaced. It protects the metal mesh screen from getting dirty, which can cause it to be damaged and allow microwave leakage. Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:
- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)
If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

My Whirlpool MH3184xps is shooting a spark when in use with the rack. When the rack is removed the oven works fine. I am guessing that some of the coating on the rack has cracked and peeled and is exposing some aluminum. Has anyone else had this problem?
