Compaq pressario 4764 will not release cd but will play it. how do i get it out without harming it?

With the power off insert a paper clip wire to release. Suggest trying ejecting many many times before using the paper clip trick.. Use the clip with the power off or it will close on you before you get it out. Insert into hole and keeping horizontal apply some moderate force.

What has happen as the machine has gotten older the rubber belt that operated the eject has stretched. By cycling it usually will warm up a little and get sticky enough against the pulley to release the disk. The drive needs to be repaired. There are several videos available to show you how. I found getting the replacement belt to be the difficulty. Replacement drivwes are not very expensive.

How do I get my lap top to work

That page is the BIOS "basic input output system" it looks for an operating system usually on a hard disk. Either your hard disk has crashed or there is a problem with the motherBoard and the hard disk controller. You can try removing the hard disk and putting back in as it could be minor corrosion where it plugs in.

My Compaq Presario would not boot. I happened to lose the recovery disk (I put it away in case something like this would happen, I end up losing it anyway...smh). I have tried everything, from USb booting...

Of course. You can use some live linux distro (Ubuntu in example) or Hiren's Boot CD (one of the best tools, download here: http://rapidshare.com/files/426971514/Hirens.BootCD.11.1.rar )

Emonster 550 wont load operating system wont read disk nothing can you help me please?

Go into the BIOS (watch your POST screen as you turn the computer on for instructions if you don't know how to get in there, it will say something like "press F2 to enter setup") and set your computer to boot from your CD drive. Put your restore or XP disk in the CD drive and reboot.

My disk drive isn't working. When I put a disk in and close it, nothing happens.

Firstly lets see if your drive is working!

#put in a disk you know works and has files of some sort on it

#If nothing is still happening , goto my computer and right click on your CD drive and click "explore"
Do you now see files ?
#if not right click on "My computer" and click manage

#the "COmputer Management" Console will now popup and you will see a selection of headings on the left , click the plus sign on "Storage" to expand it then lcick on "Disk management (Local)

#in here you will see all the storage devices attched to your computer , including your Hard Drives , Floppy Drives , USB Flash Drives etc.. , from here you should see your CD Drive , if you do and right click it and explore the drive and you do see files , change the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive from the default D: to say like F: or something , right click the CD-Drive in the Disk management and click change driver letter , and follow the instructions.

#If you dont see the files or you dont see the CD-Drive at all do the following:

1. right click my computer
2. click on properties

a new window will popup

3. click on the hardware tab
4. click on device manager

the device manager console will now open , from within here find your CD/DVD Drive under the DVD/CDROM drive heading, right click the appropriate drive and click on uninstall

now reinstall with the drivers and restart.

also if this doesn't fix your problem try upgrading the firmware of your Drive.

**im assuming your running Windows XP for that solution but i would think the process in Vista would be very similar.

If you have a spare computer that is unused maybe you could try it on that machine and see if it works , if it does a fresh installation of Windows on your current machine may be the solution as it could be infected with a virus which just may have corrupted the window drivers.

Feel Free to ask more if this doesnt fix it:

Thanks!

Cd drive

Try having your cd drive cleaned. A cd drive could prevent the cd drive to read the disk properly. The drive noise is normal if the speed of your cd drive is high. Here are some links on how to clean a cd drive:

Here is the link for reducing the speed of the disk (if the sound annoys you):
