Turning on, and off sounds like bad capacitors on the motherboard.

I don't believe the members of the organization you took it to; have the savvy to repair.
(Frankly I don't think they could pour P out of a boot..................Wait!...............Did I say that out loud?)

This is what it states from Microsoft for 'Unmountable boot volume',

The jist is the Harddrive cannot be reached - Bad IDE ribbon cable
The Windows files are corrupted - Use Restoration Disk
BIOS Settings are set wrong.

I'm going to state something different. May be putting my neck out...

Capacitors on the motherboard.
To be specific the ones used on your motherboard are Electrolytic Capacitors.
More specifically; Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

An Electrolytic Capacitor has Electrolytic paste inside.
When the capacitor starts to fail, it's because the paste has developed a gas inside. Hydrogen Gas. The gas expands, and pops the seals of the capacitor open.

So much paste loss, and the capacitor operates at a weakened state.
Too much paste loss, and the capacitor fails.

Capacitors are used as Voltage Regulators, and Filters.
The ones used as Voltage Regulators, are in the Motherboard Voltage Regulator Circuit,

Part of what the motherboard voltage regulator circuit does; is to regulate voltage for the Processor.
The Processor MUST have a steady, 'clean', supply of voltage; and it MUST be kept within the small tolerance range, for the Processor.

Cannot be too much, or too little; or BIOS will turn the Processor off.

The Processor is the 'Brain' of the computer.
Guess what happens if it turns off, turns on, turns off, etc?

I think what you are seeing.
Cannot access boot files on the harddrive.
No processor.

Computer off, and unplugged from power.
FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
Relieve your body of Static BEFORE reaching inside your computer.

Computer ON a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open;
TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again, upon your return.

There are going to be cables (Wires), in the way. You can gently move them aside to look at the capacitors. L@@K close. May need a bright light, and magnification.

Capacitors look good, I'm full of beans?
OK. Onward through the fog.

Replace the IDE ribbon cable going TO the harddrive.

Test the Power Supply, or see if you can borrow a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply; from a working computer for a test.

I think capacitors, therefore motherboard replacement.

Not advertising for seller, nor website. Just from a quick search,

MAKE notes, and drawing/s as to where EACH cable plugs into.
The ones I may not be able to help you with, are USB, Front Panel audio, Front Panel Firewire (1394a)
Power cables, data cables to optical drive/harddrive, plus Front Panel header; yes.

Just replace the fan. They are a standard commodity and not hard to change. Get a good one this time. You get what you pay for.

Why would you want to connect to Windows? Yecch. Go to and check around for an interesting OS and filesystem combination.

Still, I'd chalk it up to your having plugged another bootable volume into the machine (e.g. a CD ROM) or otherwise changing the setup from what you brought to GeekSquad. Honestly, you've described the problem circumstances quite poorly. Does it not beep before booting -any- OS?

SOURCE: Reset Ram?

By default your RAM should reset every time you restart your computer and all of the memory should return to the system. If this is not the case I suggest defragmenting your ram.

If you are using windows Vista I suggest inserting your OS DVD into the drive, rebooting, and running the memory diagnostic tool.

If you are not running Vista you will have to download a program such as RAM Def 2.6 Xtreme to defragment the memory for you.

SOURCE: Compaq Presario SR1330NX power problem

If the LED light is blinking when you turn it on the you need a new power supply cord. Take your system back to have a new power suply cord put on it will run you about 60 to 100 dollars for it. But if you are going to add more memory, graphics and sound card, your best bet is to get the 80 dollar one. And if you plan on having it installed it will run you 40 dollars unless you have the gift of gab and act like you know what wrong and get a discount, lol.

SOURCE: windows wont boot. it keeps coming up to start in

Windows operating system might have changed recently. You may need to repair install the operating system. Does the recovery of computer work? I could say if you don't have the repair CD , you could get one from Microsoft. Microsoft customer service person ask you some questions about the legal copy of the software on the computer. If you had registeted microsoft software then it would cost you $10 for CD.

Compaq presario sr1420nx turns on makes one beep then resets in continual pattern doesnt get to boot up

To go with my other solution to you;

You press the Power On Button. This in turn presses the Power On switch, located inside the plastic assembly; of the Power On Button.

When the Power Supply is connected to power (Plugged in), there is always a constant 5 Volts present. (DC Voltage)
This is the 5 Volt Standby power.

Pressing the Momentary Contact Switch, the Power On switch; closes a circuit, momentarily.
The Soft Power On circuit.

This 'excites' the Power Supply, and turns it on.
(Sounds like the start of a steamy novel)
The first chipset to receive power is the BIOS chipset.

The Basic Input/Output System is activated. (BIOS program)
BIOS looks to see what devices are connected, DOES a Ram Memory count, and turns the Processor on.
Then BIOS hands the computer over to the Operating System.

ONE beep indicates BIOS has done a Ram Memory test, and everything is OK.
Now next we have BIOS turning the Processor on.

Then handing the computer over to the O/S.

Due to what is going on, as stated in my other solution to you; the Processor is turned on, BIOS goes for the boot files on the harddrive; then power problems develop from the bad capacitors; and BIOS turns the Processor off.

Just about had time to access boot files; but now the Processor is turned off, ('Brain'), and boot files on harddrive couldn't be accessed.
Now here we go again; with the weakened capacitors trying to do their job.
Cycle starts all over again, but weakened capacitors 'drop to their knees', and Processor turns off.

Over, and over; until capacitors fail all the way, and Nothing happens.

Could be one of two things: either the power supply is going bad or the RAM is either going bad or isn't seated properly inside.

First thing I would try would be to re-seat all the memory chips inside the computer. There could be up to 4 sticks of memory in some computers. If this doesn't work, try pulling the memory out of the computer one stick and a time and booting the PC. If it boots, you've found your bad memory stick. Put all the others back in and replace the faulty one.

If none of this works, you might consider calling HP (maker for compaq) for support on getting the power supply replaced.
