If you want a nice thump or sound i suggest face them towards the back of the car that way the vibrations bounce off your trunk and hit you hard
thats how i have my 2 clarion 600's and thats the only way the pound good and they sound the best facing the trunk

Mikepaul: with the low freqs that subs are meant to reproduce, it does not matter which way they are mounted. low freqs like this are what is called "non-directional". meaning you will not know the where the sound is coming coming because it "wraps around" the interior.

as far as box design is concerned, there are couple ways to go. yrs ago it was popular to use the trunk as part of the speaker box or enclosure. they did that by installing a piece of plywood across the frame between the trunk & the rear seats. the mounting holes for the speakers were cut to clear the frame members. usually chalking or sealant was applied to the plywood prior to install to try make the trunk as air tight as possible. one of the advantages to this is you can still use your trunk, plus it's relatively easy to do.

if you decide to build a box. my best advice would be to check out a book @ the library on building spkr enclosures. radio shack used to sell a book on enclosures. i don't know if they still do. it was resonably priced. i would build a tuned port enclosure myself because it has better performance than a non-ported. there are too many considerations & formulas to deal with here.

as far as the 15" subs, you don't want to overdrive them. with sound as with most performance areas, most people think bigger is better. sometimes, yes sometimes, no. with spkrs this size when driving them with high levels it's possible for the piston to travel so far, because of the mass, that it can bottomout & ruin the sound. pay attention to the resonant freq of those subs when designing a box. it has a direct effect on performance. there is more, but do some research & if you have additional ???, i'll be glad to help.

Schematic for orion HCCA-D2400

The schematic or service manual doesn't appear to be available online. You may have to contact Orion. Verify the REM input to the amp. It should be 12V when the car is on and 0V when the car is off.

For da orion 2500d, what would be the difference between 10'', 12'', & 15'' orion hcaa subs besides a matter of price and inches? I have two of the orion 2500d amps and am ready for the subs. I would...

I honestly would go with 2 12 inch dual 2 ohm subs and wire them one per amp. That will give you a 1 ohm load to each amp and will give the HCCA's 2500 rms per sub... It will be stupid loud... 10s hit tighter than 12's usually and 12's tighter than 15's but u will get more air movement out of a 15 than the 12's and 10s... but... 2 10's require say a 4 cubic foot box to perform well... 2 12's require a 5 cubic foot box to perform well and 2 15's require about 7 to 10 cubic foot to perform to their fullest... no matter what if you put a sub in a box that's too small it will not perform or sound like what you want it to... go 2 12's and like a 5.50 cubic foot box or a 6 cubic foot box and you will love it...

I have a d5000 amp and its wired up to a 15.2 hcca orion sub when i turn it up high volume,it cuts out anyone know why

make sure you have the frequency cuts right. if ur giving the sub anything lower then 30hz (assuming ur using 15's) the amp will cut out to protect the woofers from overload

Orion hcca 250

i can make this relatively simple.
2 stages:
Stage (1) wiring the Sub inside the box;
Unscrew the SUB from the Box, (& undo the wires)
Connect both +Positive terminals on the SUB to the +Positive terminal on the inside of your BOX.
Connect both -Negative terminals on the SUB to the -Negative terminal on the inside of your Box,
Then screw the SUB back into the Box.
u Have just wired yr sub in parallel. any Amplifier will see it as 1woofer with 1OHMs resistance.

Stage (2) bridging your amp
(please check Amplifier instructions on which terminals to use)
generally you use "LEFT -Negative" and
"Right +Positive"
and connect to the corresponding terminals on the Sub Box.
Hope that helps someone.

How to wire 2 dvc subs to a orion 2150sx ? dont know the wire colors or how to hook um to my amp.

what impedence are the voicecoils?
Dual 4 - Dual 2 - Dual 1 ??

Orion SX / GS / HCCA amp Wiring guide:

Orange = Right Positive
Black/ Orange = Right Negative
Yellow = Left Positive
Black/ Yellow = Left Negative
Blue = 1+1

Bridging of SX or HCCA Amps:
1. Use the Orange wire for Positive.
2 Use the Black/ Yellow wire for Negative
3. Push "in" the Mono Button
That amplifier is only 4ohm mono stable - so assuming the subs are dual 4 ohm voicecoils...

First wire both in Parallel Independently So each subwoofer is now a 2 ohm load. (combine + and + - and- on both subwoofers)

Now Take a positive on one voicecoil of sub #1 and attach to amplifier+(orange)

Take a - on that same subwoofer and attach it to a + on the OTHER subwoofer.

Finally, take a - from the second woofer to the amplifier -(black/yellow)

Now you have a 4 ohm load on your bridged channels.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

The owner's manual states the ported box should be:
  • 4.00 cu ft.
  • Port diameter = 4"
  • Port length = 14"
It doesn't mention round vs. rectangular port. For more details, you may want to contact Orion.
