You need to set the outgoing mail server to one you can send from your iphone, ie the one your network carrier lists as you cannot send email through an AOL server unless you are using an AOL connection

Go into itunes and try syncing your phone. You may be able to move the email from the application. Otherwise delete your mail account, and re install it after backing it up with itunes so you don't lose the contacts. I have 2 of them and mine has done that before, my wifes never has. so it's a quirk, but it was the only way I could get mine running again, it shouldn't affect anything else, just re input the settings for the email account and you should be good to go

Apple's iPhone has a variety of features that many users find to be useful, but perhaps one of the most useful features is the ability to easily access and transfer iPhone contacts. Even if the user you wish to send contacts to is not an iPhone user, you'll find that the process of sharing contacts on your iPhone via email is a simple one.
Press the "Phone" icon on your iPhone's screen.
Press the "Contacts" tab on the bottom of the screen.
Scroll down and select the contact you want to transfer via an email.
Press the "Share Contact" button.
Press the "Email" button to share the contact via email.
Type in a subject in the subject line and select a email address to send the contact to. Press "Send" to transfer the contacts to an email. Repeat the process as necessary for additional iPhone contacts you want to share.
