Kenwood KDC-x817 AUX hook up

I have a Kenwood KDC-X817 CD receiver and im trying to be able to use my ipod with it. It says on some on the online manuals that you can accept input from an auxiliary source When used with an optional adapter (KCA-S210A or CA-C1AX). So i bought the CA-C1AX and connected it to my receiver but have no luck i still can't use my ipod. I followed the steps of going to standby mode and scrollong through the menu until i see AUX off and turning it to on, but the problem is that when scrolling through the menu, I DONT SEE the AUX off feature. PLEASE HELP!

If you have it wired up correctly you will still need the security code. Getting that from Kenwood if you don't have it is like trying to drink an ocean with a shot glass.

Does the Kenwood KDC MP5032 have an aux input? If so, where is it?

Hi there,

Kenwood utilize the CD Changer plug in the back (which acts as a secondary Aux input), to operate external iPod devices.

This is done with the aid of an Adapter Lead - it has the 13-pin DIN plug on one end (plugs into the rear of your unit), and an iPod plug on the other end (plugs into your iPod).

Depending on the "Generation" of your external iPod device, you will need to buy the appropriate Kenwood adapter cable. These are: KCA-IP102, KCA-IP202 or KCA-IP302.

There may be some aftermarket (3rd party) cables that may do the same job.

Just ensure you read your Kenwood manual, as the Kenwood unit may be limited to the types of files (i.e. formats) it can read & play.

Hope this explains....

Cheers,

How do you hook up an i-pod to a KDC-135 AND HEAR IT?

You will need a 3.5mm mini to mini cable (available at any good car audio store for between $10-20. Plug that into the headphone jack on your ipod and then into the aux input on your stereo. Then select aux-in as the source on your Kenwood. Now play the music on your ipod at about 3/4 volume on the iPod.

How do you work the aux input? im trying to connect my ipod to through an auxilary cord but im not getting any results?

I have the answer for this problem...finally! This is by far the dumbest instruction manual ever. Here goes:
while in standby mode, push and hold down the menu button until the display changes. Once the menu is up, toggle thur (using the am/fm toggle) until you come to AUX OFF, now toggle it to AUX ON. Exit the menu. Plug in your ipod and push the SRC button until AUX is displayed and enjoy.

Problem with Kenwood x817 in my '95 audi A6

It sounds like the radio to me.

I work at a Kenwood authorized service center and have seen this problem many times. It is a common problem with this model and many other Kenwood models as well.

It has a ribbon cable that connects the display to the main board and they are almost always the cause of your problem.

The ribbon cable has a part number right on the cable in the skinny little area that laps over the connector that is on the main board of the radio.

the part number starts with either J84-xxx-xx or J86-xxx-xx
The "xxxx-xx" is the remainder of the part number. You can see what it is when you look at the cable. I just can't remember the entire part number right now without the service manual in front of me.

You can get that part at an authorized Kenwood repair center. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you. It cost around $20 to $30 depending on the shops mark-up of the part.

To replace that part you will also need to un-solder the metal connector that the face plate comes in contact with and solder it back on to the new cable.

You must also be careful taking apart the radio to repair it. Making sure that you don't force anything apart and causing more problems.

If you decide to do this yourself, let me know and I can give you some better instructions tomorrow when I have the service manual to look at.

It is reccomended that you let a proffesional do it for you.
The repair should not cost more than $100 for parts and labor. My shop would charge about $85.

I hope this helps you make an informed desicion on how to approach this problem.

I good rating is always appreciated for the help provided.
Thanks and good luck, just let me know if you need more help.

Auxillary option not available in menu

Try putting the unit in standby via the "SRC" button FIRST..., then press the menu button and cycle through to the "AUX 1" option and activate this....then press menu button again. When the unit is next switched on, you should have an "AUX" option accessible via the "SRC" button which will cycle through all of the availale modes ....standby-tuner-cd-aux etc etc.
