Dear Paul, Hi! Did you do the maintenance sequence to align the print heads and all that? Are the cartridges remanufactured? If so, they don't work as well as the genuine article. You may have to jink with the settings - just try to print the page or go into the maintenance section and click on used cartridge in the software.

The sensors may be dirty. The printer will need to be turned on so that when you open it the cartridges will move out of the way to the far left. You may need to remove the cartridges and place them on a clean sheet of paper maybe on their side so that you are not placing the print heads of the cartridges onto any surface, then taking a clean cloth, carefully clean around the print pads located on the right hand side of the insides.
Although I have put in two new ink cartridges in m - 11_28_2012_8_24_03_pm.jpg

See the pads inside the blue looking area on the right hand side? This is what I am talking about. Don't apply a lot of pressure, just lightly clean them. My printer is the Canon PIXMA 190 which should be very similar to yours. Thank you.

SOURCE: CanonPIXMA iP90 Color Ink Tank installation problem

yeah it sounds like a cartridge sensors are stuck or broken. i would say to replace the whole print unit. It will need a service support dealer to fit this part unless you can buy it and fir it yourself.

part number: QM2-2020-020

hope this helps

I know it sounds stupid but do you have the old black cartridge, if you do put it back and see if it is printing even if the quality is poor and faded. If it is then possibly there is a contact bad, try swittching the black cartridge for one of the other colour ones, but put a colour in to the black space but don't put the black into one of the colour spaces. If the colour one is working in the black space then it's basically a dud cartridge and bring it back to where ever you got it from. Hope it works for you - Pat

HP6180 Printer. I keep getting an error message, Ink cartridge em

Hi,

some cartridges are charged up ( have a chip fitted to them )
If the chip is not charged to tell the printer it,s full of ink. this will cause the problem.
have you tried. unplugging the printer from the mains. then powering it back up.
also try using the printers own software to add new cartridges et,c.
you could also try re-installing the printers drivers/software if you have it,s instalation disk.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

I think you printer cartridge as sensor which ink levels as it is failed in the black cartridge ,you can either clean the contacts the printer and cart with dry tissue paper and replace and set printer installing new cart or use it like this because the printer company doe not support refilled cartridges to be used .

Ink Cartridge

Lexmark/Dell info
Before you buy a remanufactured Lexmark or Dell inkjet cartridge please carefully read and understand the following:
The more recent ranges of remanufactured colour Lexmark and Dell ink cartridges have been remarkably unreliable - the failure rate being massively higher than all other remanufactured goods we supply. Our remanufactured HP's, Canon, and older Lexmark/Dell ranges remain very reliable.
At seems almost certain the micro-electronics in these cartridges have been developed in the factory to ensure failure at a given point. THE MODELS MOST LIKELY TO CAUSE PROBLEMS ARE THE LEXMARK No1, No2, No3, No29, No33, No35 and No43, AND THE DELL MODELS TO FIT PRINTERS 922/924/942/944/962/964 and Dell printers sold in the last 12 months. For some reason the problems seem to be with colour cartridges - black units remain reliable.
On the reverse of a brand new Lexmark 29 colour cartridge box (in print so small it's almost impossible to read) it says: "THE PATENTED PRINT CARTRIDGE CONTAINED INSIDE IS LICENSED FOR A SINGLE USE ONLY AND IS DESIGNED TO STOP WORKING AFTER DELIVERING A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF INK. A VARIABLE AMOUNT OF INK WILL REMAIN IN THE CARTRIDGE WHEN REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED." In plain English this means the cartridge will certainly fail - even when there is ink inside.
Although this is not printed on the boxes of certain other models, the high failure rate suggests similar technology is deployed. A perfectly good remanufactured cartridge can be installed, and used - albeit temporarily. Suddenly and without explanation, an error message "UNSUPPORTED CARTRIDGE" appears, and the cartridge refuses to work ever again. Most will almost certainly end up in landfill.
