Unable to clear a recurring pop-up msg.

"The application Spotlight quit unexpectedly. click relaunch to launch the application again" neither the ignore nor relaunch button permanantly get rid of the pop up.

Thanks for your help Joe. While running that app didn't clear the pop up, it did give another avenue to explore. it seems to be a half run spotlight program that was aborted half way thru and the computer can't seem to get over it haha. i will continue to research.

    Thanks again, Cathi

Download the free maintenance application Onyx and it will also reset spotlight along with other maintenance tasks (that should be done once every two months-rebooting twice after cleaning cache to rebuild startup & shutdown cache).

Hi Edwin

Hard to understand what you mean!

Restart the computer
Hold shift key down on restart (Safe Mode)
hold "option" key down on restart.
Boot from recovery disk
Use Hard Drive utility to fix Permissions.
Do NOT re format your drive
Re boot as normal.
Delete the application causing problem
then re install

How do i get icons at bottom screen in i mac

If you want to add the application icons to the bottom of the screen (or Dock) there are a couple of ways to do this.

1.) Open a window in Finder and go to 'Applications', simply drag the application you want to appear in the Dock toward the bottom of the screen and release when the app icon is where you want it to be.

2.) Launch the application you want to appear in the Dock. When the app is running, the icon will appear in the Dock on the right side, to make it stay there even when you quit the app, simply right-click (if mouse supports it) or control click and from the pop-up select 'Options' and chose 'Keep in Dock'.

You can move the icons around in the Dock by click and holding on them and dragging them around to the location you want... and to remove an icon from the Dock just drag it off the Dock into the main area of the screen and release.

My iphoto got problem in opening. i cant open it. the " iphoto just quit unexpectedly" window kept popping out whenever i tried clicking Reopen.

You could try the application iphoto library manager which can be found at http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ this can allow you to rebuild corrupted iphoto libraries. I am not sure if the free version has this facility but the full version costs about $20 and is well worth it to keep your iphoto up to scratch. Hope this helps.

I can't seem to start up my illustrator CS. It has been fine all along until now. I've been using it for a couple of years. It says 'The applications Adobe Illustrator CS quit unexpectedly. Mac OSX and...

First, back up all your important Illustrator files just in case.

1. Check to see that you have updated Illustrator to the latest version. I don't own Illustrator, but look in the Help menu.

2. If you have updated to the latest version of Illustrator, it may be time to reinstall Illustrator and apply all the updates.

(3. Question: what version of Mac OS X are you running and have you recently upgraded? That's another possible reason why it's not working.)

Good luck, and please let us know if this did or didn't solve your problem. Please rate me if it solved your problem.

Internet crashing- what's the problem/ solution?

Sometimes for what seems to be a very difficult issue, can in fact have a simple solution.

These browsers have preferences lists in their directories which if corrupted adversely impact the functionality of these web browser applications, so try these steps:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
-REMOVING SAFARI & FIREFOX PLISTS-

font.f1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} • From your desktop, click anywhere on a blank space on your desktop. Now you should see Finder listed near the Apple menu icon.

• From the Finder menu, click on Go, then Home from the
drop-down menu. This will take you to your Home folder.

• Locate and open the Library folder

• Within Library folder look for the Preferences folder and open it.

• Locate and remove to the Trash, these files:
com.apple.Safari.plist
com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
org.mozilla.firefox.plist

Once you have removed these files to the Trash, click the back button on the open Finder window.
• This will return you back to the Library view where you now will need to locate and remove to the Trash, the folder entitled "Caches".

*Once that folder is removed to the Trash, close all applications and open windows.

* Next, click on the Apple menu icon (upper left corner of your screen) and select from the drop down window, Logout<username>. This will take you the main login window. Simply log back in to your current user account.

* Before testing your Safari and Firefox browsers, perform one more procedure in order to repair folder/file permissions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
font.f1 {font: 13.0px Myriad Pro} -RUN DISK UTILITY FIRST-

Go to Finder Menu bar
• Click Go > Utilities > Disk Utility and open up Disk Utility app.
• Click on Macintosh HD volume (or on the name you have changed
this volume to.)
• Select "Repair Disk Permissions"
**Let Disk Utility run this repair permissions process, until completion.

Once Disk Utility is complete and there are no errors in red in the completion summary (if there are errors listed in red, re-run DU to see if those error will clear- if they don't reply back to this post right away and let me know what the exact error message is), quit Disk Utility.

• Once this is completed, now you should relaunch
both Safari and Firefox to see if they will now launch.
Update me if these processes did not help.

Thanks!

Regards,

-Mactechtrainer

Frozen Network Preference pane on MacBook Pro

Although this is hard to diagnose with the information given I hope this may help.First we need to do a permissions repair. Open the Hard drive icon on your desktop> Applications> Utility Folder (near the bottom)> Disk utility> Select your Disk (the one under the main drive description)> click "Verify Permissions" when that is complete> Click "Repair Permissions" if it finds permission issues.

Next: Open System Preferences> select Network> Select Airport> Select the Drop down menu> Select Edit locations> Name location> If DHCP is not automatic then select DHCP. Click apply then restart.

If unable to connect then reset Airport by unplugging from back and waiting 30 seconds for memory to clear and replugging back in. Wait for all lights to become steady, then attempt to connect again.

When we try to open dreamweaver it quits

It sounds like some components maybe missing or the application is corrupted. Try going into:

Hard drive/Applcations/Utilities/Disk Utility

You should see your hard drive on the left pane, select the volume under it, which usually is what youve named the drive or MACINTOSH HD if it hasn't been renamed. Select FIRST AID, then below select repair disk permissions. Restart the computer and try relaunching. If oyu still get the same "Unexpected quit" message, see if it gives you an error message code. If after you repair the permissions on your hard drive you still get the error, I'd uninstall and reinstall the OS, upgrade your OS X to the current 10.4.10...if the issue still occurs, your hard drive maybe failing.

Hope this helps.
